Sean McDonough Named National Sportscaster of the Year

One of our own. Great video of when he was told. (Another, Ian Eagle, won it last year.)

Sean did a great job on the Sugar Bowl last night.

Love it when he does a Red Sox game. He, Bilas and Rafferty were the best combo ever followed up by Walton. Well deserved! Everything the man does in the world of sportscasting is done well.

He's a great guy!

I worked with him for a few games our sophmore or junior years at the Carrier Dome.
He was the announcer for men's soccer games in the Dome. A friend of mine was the statistician of the team (his father was the commissioner of the NASL) and asked me to blow the substitution horn for a few games.

I got to meet Sean again at Jim Boeheim's 2012 Basket Ball event.
Hope to meet him again at some point.

There's no one better than Sean. A HOFer in his profession and a giant of an SU alum.
Lest not forget that his father was a prominent NFL related person for CBS in the day.

And let's not forget to thank Coach Mac for helping Sean finish his education at the greatest school in the US of A.

Will McDonough was a legend at the Boston Globe. Will also had something of a checkered history with how he covered Boston athletes. But his son is a tremendous person. The apple fell a bit further from the tree in this case.

The absolute best and he loves Syracuse more than anyone. I’m playing golf with him in Scottsdale in February and always look forward to those days. He’s a great story teller and just great human being… his call on the game last night was very well received by the masses and that was mega prime time matchup

Is this his first time winning it? He's been great for so long. Him, Bilas, and Raft were the best basketball announcing team. I've always preferred him to Ian Eagle.

I just read his Wikipedia page. Apparently Will McDonough was friends with Whitey Bulger. Yikes.

I'm not aware of anyone else who can call football, basketball, baseball and hockey games and do it completely naturally.
Kenny Albert and Sean are the best in doing all 4, I don’t know of any others presently doing that. Marv, of course, Gary Thorne, Mac's buddy from Maine and Tim Ryan, did NHL on NBC in 70s during Peter Puck era, also did all 4. Marv and Ryan also did tennis and boxing and Ryan did skiing on CBS Sports Spectacular, ABC Wide World of Sports and Olympics.Ryan wasn't the biggest name out there but he might have been the most versatile.
