I am not defensive I call a spade a spade. The SEC has been on a good run but their reputation propped up an overrated Mississippi State and it has been proven when their schools lose they don't fall as far as the other P5 teams do when they lose. The SEC circlejerk is annoying.

Then you should re read your responses to me. The only evidence you've used so far is a comment by crazy Brent and the Schlereth is an NFL guy (I'm sure he doesn't watch anything else...considering he's on a national show that talks about a variety of sporting topics)

If your position is that the national view of college football has been the SEC isn't the best conference for the 2014 season then I can't say anymore other than the mainstream college football media has not said anything but the SEC is the best conference.

Not denying being overrated a bit but I think judging by bowls isn't a good metric. Bowls are about motivation as much as talent. I'd look at the regular season records they have against other conferences (and the sec east) as the best metric. Bama blew out wvu. Auburn beat k state. Lsu beat Wisconsin. Ole miss blew out Boise, etc.

The Bama-wvu matchup was a one score game well into the second half. Not sure why people try and rewrite that as a blowout.

This is just wrong. The sec's record against other p5 conference members has been the best since forever...and that holds when you look at games against ranked opponents, too.

I don't think anyone is going to claim they're the best this year, but the reason they're given the benefit of the doubt is that they've been best for a long time.

Go through the AP rankings from pre-season onward and see how many weeks the SEC had 4 or 5 teams ranked in the Top 10.

Not saying they didn't deserve the accolades throughout the season, like some in this thread are, but to say that there has been very little about the SEC being tops (even heads and shoulders above the rest) is simply not the case.

To me, they still are the best, but not to the ridiculousness that it got this season where the SEC West was actually favorably compared to NFL divisions.

No problem. My own opinion is that too many are making too much of the bowl results. Did the SEC get taken down a peg or two? Sure. But they are still the best football conference. All the last week has shown is that the gap between the SEC and the others may be narrowing.
