Anyone else catch that on Tuesday night?

Andy Samberg's character, Jake Peralta, says his investigation is on the one yard line and follows it up by snarkily saying, "it's a football reference."

Then Terry Crews' character, Sergeant Terry Jeffords, replies condescendingly, "Yes Jake, I played linebacker at Syracuse."

To which Joe Lo Truglio's character, Detective Boyle says, "really? In high school I played centerfield... In the musical Damn Yankees."

So we've got another TV character that's a Cuse alum... And even better, a former football player.

Love when writers incorporate Syracuse.

Kinda hazzy...but isn't Syracuse like a suburb or do you Yankees call them a borough of NYC? BTW, which subway line do I take to get to the campus?

you are a damn yankee and know it

I was watching He Got Game last night ... forgot that movie had two Cuse legends ... J-Dub and Jim Brown ... pretty cool to see both the hoops and football program represented in that movie.

That show is hilarious.

One of the four new shows I watch with Sleepy Hollow, Shield and the Goldbergs.

Its genuinely funny with a great cast.

Is it actually funny? Because some of the previews looked flat out BAD. Maybe i'll give it a shot.

What program is this? You know, for those of us that are TV culture impaired.

I think it's very funny... But it's not funny in a traditional 3-camera sitcom ("Big Bang Theory" or "Two & a Half Men") kinda way.

The jokes are subtle and often hidden.

Yes, Andy Sandberg plays a buffoon, but the dialog is underplayed while being simultaneously absurd very funny. (See the "Damn Yankees" joke above)

At this point, it's not quite as "out there" as "30 ROCK" or even "My Name is Earl" were, but in my opinion, I think it's trying to get to that place.

Think "The Office" with detectives instead of paper salesmen - And no cast member interviews.

"Brooklyn Nine Nine" is a sitcom on Fox... Tuesday nights.

Check local listings for times.

Here's a link to the show's website: http://www.fox.com/brooklyn-nine-nine/
The episode referenced above is THE VULTURE.

And the Syracuse quip is pretty early on in that episode.

Whoa, in what world are Big Bang Theory and Two and a Half Men funny?

I've kinda lost track of this show because we record other stuff at the same time, so it kinda got squeezed out because my wife doesn't watch it, but it's really pretty funny. It's still finding its footing but there's a lot of potential.

And anytime you can get Terry Crews associated with Syracuse, even in a fictional capacity, that's a definite plus.

Re-read my post...

I said "Brooklyn Nine-Nine is not funny in a traditional 3-camera sitcom kinda way. I only used "Big Bang Theory" and " & a Half Men" as examples of what 3-camera sitcoms are.

Boeheim was in it briefly as well.

Holy balls I just started watching Brooklyn 9 9 on hulu ... pretty damn funny.

Yep. Parks and Rec might be my favorite comedy on TV and Fire Joe Morgan was such a great blog.

Mhm, and as much as I adore Parks and Rec, this is funnier than that was in season one. I don't know if it'll stack up to what P&R became, but we'll see. At worst, it's a solid weekly watch, when so many comedies are gone or ending soon.

I think Parks and Rec is one of the funniest things on TV in awhile. Ron Swanson makes that show.

Kinda lost track of the CBS show "Unforgettable"...they made a night of the week switch and Time Warner had blacked out CBS when it premeiered...are they still dropping Syracuse references just about every show?

The good news is they renewed it for a third season...more Poppy Montgomery is always a good thing.
