How does he call a foul, then have no idea who he called it on? He even had to check the monitor! I think that's more proof than anything that he clearly anticipates calls. He's always out of position, can't run up and down the court, and blows the whistle to catch a breather. He should retire ASAP. Why he keeps getting hired is beyond me.

Was I the only person that thought this wasn't a big deal? Two guys went up, maybe he just forgot to check the number, or noticed both, and then forgot. It was the right call, and it was pretty clear who it was on, but there were two defenders jumping for the block.

I mean, the guy is ATROCIOUS as an official, but I was kind of surprised he got so much heat from that from the announcers.

Did I hear the UL crowd at one point chant "Jim Burr Sucks...Jim Burr Sucks..."

I agree, I don't see it as a big deal that he didn't know which player it was. Better that he check the monitor and credit the foul to the right player than he just guess and get it wrong.

Bilas was a riot during this. People are giving Burr a hard time about this because Bilas did.

We got like three straight Jim Burr calls that went our way (for a change)

I was so defensive about the officiating that in the beginning of the game I almost forced my wife out of the room. She said something to me about it and I barked back, "If you don't like it go into the other room." (OOPS, heat of the moment) I was really keyed up for this game, so sick of losing to Slick Rick.

That continuation play he called where Melo was nowhere near the act of shooting was classic Jim Burr. If I was Pitino I might have gotten tossed after that call.

I thought Burr blew calls, as did his mates, pretty evenly last night for both teams.

These old clowns look for any excuse to go to the monitors to get a break. I'm convinced Higgins and Burr do this on purpose to rest.

Agreed. As bad as it appears, if there is any question, you have to get the call right. It's possible that one of the other refs thought it was a different player. Not that big of a deal IMO.

Stewart (the other white guy with the hole in his haircut) had a tough night. I thought he was worse than Burr last night.

The continuation call was hysterical because it was not even close. Hell he made a second move after the first time when he got fouled. I would have flipped out as well if I were Pitino.

What kills me about last nights calls were small ticky tack reach ins were called but nothing was called under the hoop. Blows me away when that happens. We were certainly the beneficiaries of the majority of calls but still. The NCAA really needs to step in and force some of these dinosaurs out.

I thought the continuation was a make up for the no-actual-foul-occurred foul that he blew on (I believe) Joseph in the series immediately preceding it.

He's beyond his useful lifespan as a ref and should stick to watching games from his recliner.

My understanding is this is kinda like the tenured system. We get the same guys (Burr, Higgins, Valentine, etc...) over and over because our games (and all the other big boy leagues) pay the most to the refs. Working a Cuse game pays a ton more than working a Siena or Colgate game. Someone correct me if I'm wrong here.

That said some of these guys need to get relegated to the MAAC.

Not defending a bad ref but when you have multiple arms hacking someone, it isn't always easy in a split second to identify WHOSE arm committed the foul.

the important thing was that he correctly called the foul. I have no problem with him going to the monitor to identify the player that the offending arm was attached to

Agreed. The fourth foul on Joseph (reach in) gets called...the third foul on Siva (another questionable reach) and yet guys drive to the hoop get hacked and no call.

Early in the game Triche threw up a jumper, I think it was beyond the arc, and it landed about 4 feet short and to the right of the hoop yet no call.

That 4th on K JO was terrible. Replayed it two times, even if there was contact it would be like a fly landing on your arm. Like you said guys were getting butchered under the basket and no whistle.

and how about that call on Triche when the Louisville player was taking a three with the clock running out. Burr was on the run and through blurred vision made a call when there was no foul.

I don't have it out for any official by name.

What I do have it out for is

1. Officials making calls and then midcourt officials overturning them.
2. Officials making calls when a players/players back is to them.
3. Officials not being out of bounce baseline under the hoop instead of at midcourt.
4. Officials not calling it both ways. I am willing to guess if we rewind the tape we got bodied alot going to the basket much more then louisville.
5. Officials watching for expressions like hands coming down towards the ball. Scoop and Melo both got whisteled a few times yesterday yet never even touched the player or the ball with their body or hands. It happened atleast twice.
6. Officials should not be ready to blow the whistle because of crowd response. It happens quite often.
7. Fair got hammered on a over the back during a stretch were we got three offensive boards. We have guys who get jumped into on rebounds. I know we diddn't box out when going for the rebound and I know your trying to let players play. But We get bodied a awfull lot in the zone during our rebounds. And someone wonders why elbows get swung once in awhile its beacause you have people jumping into on rebounds.
8. Officials should be able to run down the court not only slow jog.
9. Moving screens and three seconds are not deleagated nearly enough by the refs pregame. There are three officials out there. That should be delegated.
10. Moving screens at the three point line are a different issue.
11.I don't blame officials for being wrong on a hak play I get mad when we throw up a rediculous layup that hits no where near the iron off a slap at the ball though. Scoop does that all the time. There should be a official under the basket more to see those plays.

And for the record I didn't think Fabs and one was that bad. Teh guy had a hand on the arm and the ball and Fab slowly mustled the ball into his offhand and laid it in. The defender didn't play through the play and get his second hand in on the ball thats on him.

Worst IMO was the three point shooting foul on scoop near the end of the first half, it stopped a small SU run and allowed Louisville to close the half strong and put 3 on the board in a game where points were the premium.

I rewound the DVR so many times and Scoop played awesome D the whole possession and they throw up a 30 footer and scoops hand is sort of there and they call a foul.

I will give back Melo's two points if you give me back those 3

Oh and the end of the game, how the hell did they get 1.1 ?

should have been at most .6 , and the clock didnt start for at least .5 after it was first touched, they got a home clock job and a chance to shoot,

that was ridiculous

This may not be a popular statement but I thought Jim Burr was the only ref that gave us any calls last night... The other two should have been wearing white and taken part in the white out... They seemed intimidated by the crowd and gave us squat... I'm convinced Burr just makes calls to pis* off the home fans... I like him on the road, hate him in the dome...

Matt Roe said during the telecast that these Louisville fans were the worst at seeing a game unbiased... Every call against Louisville is the worst call ever made... Even if the guy gets be-headed heading down the lane, it's a terrible call... There was one such example in the first half where i think cj was heading to the hoop, and got mugged (obvious call) and the fans acted like no one was in the vacinity... So glad we beat those bas*ards...

The thing that kills me are the anticipation calls! I counted 4 to 5 plays in the first half that Burr blew his whistle before the play happened. I feel like he's been doing this so long that he just assumes something is going to happen. It's very bad in any profession to do that!

The 3rd foul on Siva was an easy call. He reached right across the arm from the side and wasn't even close to the ball. He wasn't even that close to the SU player. It was a stupid play by Siva. That used to get called all the time when I played ball.
