Seriously Jim Burr, this was bad EVEN FOR YOU!

The thing that kills me are the anticipation calls! I counted 4 to 5 plays in the first half that Burr blew his whistle before the play happened. I feel like he's been doing this so long that he just assumes something is going to happen. It's very bad in any profession to do that!
Premature whistles... Premature anything isn't good (JB)

The 3rd foul on Siva was an easy call. He reached right across the arm from the side and wasn't even close to the ball. He wasn't even that close to the SU player. It was a stupid play by Siva. That used to get called all the time when I played ball.

You are right. I had misremembered that play. He raked Joseph's arm on that play.

Officiating was BRU-TAL last night. How many cheap ones did their guards get in the lane? And sorry but Triche and Fair get manhandled all game and rarely get to the line (I cannot remember the last time Triche got there).

Also, how is fouling a guy on an alley oop not a shooting foul?

the scoop fightin' over the pick call on the trey to end the half was pure BS. and jay bilas has seen a lot more games than i and even he was stunned by the monitor deal. burr could have called it on either dude and not raised an eyebrow.they both hit him! instead he chooses to brings down the wrath. absolute moron!

It would be if he was fouled in the act of dunking rather than in the act of going up to catch the pass. I think Louisville gave the foul so early that it was probably the right call.

Also how is it not intentional? I mean clearly the defender is not making a play on the ball and is shoving the offensive player.

We got like three straight Jim Burr calls that went our way (for a change)

I was so defensive about the officiating that in the beginning of the game I almost forced my wife out of the room. She said something to me about it and I barked back, "If you don't like it go into the other room." (OOPS, heat of the moment) I was really keyed up for this game, so sick of losing to Slick Rick.

That continuation play he called where Melo was nowhere near the act of shooting was classic Jim Burr. If I was Pitino I might have gotten tossed after that call.

I thought Burr blew calls, as did his mates, pretty evenly last night for both teams.

I did the same with my 15-year old son. As I was complaining, he kept reminding me that my complaints won't matter. I told him "don't tell me what I can't say or leave the room"

IMO this has to be either a shooting foul or an intentional foul exactly right, can't have it both ways

The officials were terrible, but there was so many calls against both teams. I don't think you can say one team was affected more by them.

just for the pure fact that you don't want to encourage guys to do this knowing there will be no shots

I don't think anyone is saying that, just talking about how bad they were

plus its actually pretty dangerous, you can undercut someone and break their neck or tailbone etc.. If a player leaves his feet to go into open space and you knock him over or grab him it should be one or the other, and I think actually should be intentional

I have to agree with this. After the gtown game where you could have stabbed someone in the 1st half and nothing would hve been called, we go to the other end, where the officials were calling fouls all over the place, with just no idea what was going on.

The scoop phantom 3pt fould was amazing to me. And how the commentators didn't even mention that (since it was at the end) was interesting.

But the 1.1 seconds put back on the clock, after the ball was tipped and without having to review it amazes me. The ref was holding up 1.1 as if he was positive.

They were all terrible last night and were screwing both teams.

Was I the only person that thought this wasn't a big deal? Two guys went up, maybe he just forgot to check the number, or noticed both, and then forgot. It was the right call, and it was pretty clear who it was on, but there were two defenders jumping for the block.

I mean, the guy is ATROCIOUS as an official, but I was kind of surprised he got so much heat from that from the announcers.

Fully agree. I ref the 11-12 year old kids basketball at my church. I know it's not the Big East. But this kind of thing happens. You see a foul occur. Lots of bodies, lots of distractions. He could have selected one and, right or wrong, no one would be the wiser. With a guess, if you get it right, fine, and if not, it's just another crappy call. At least with what integrity he has left he wanted to get the call right.

That being said, Jim Burr still sucks. REALLY sucks. Bilas isn't dumb, I'm sure he knows Jim Burr sucks, too. This was a good excuse for Bilas to get on his case.

on a few calls there was that awkward silence, where they were biting their tongues

they do say things sometimes, but I bet they are not supposed to go off on the officials too much

I dont think it was that one-sided...the Melo "continuation" might have been one of the worst calls I have ever seen.

How does he call a foul, then have no idea who he called it on? He even had to check the monitor! I think that's more proof than anything that he clearly anticipates calls. He's always out of position, can't run up and down the court, and blows the whistle to catch a breather. He should retire ASAP. Why he keeps getting hired is beyond me.

bilas was going off on that..he said several time " i dont think i can ever remember a ref not knowing who they called the foul on"... sort of sad.. he needs to retire

Who called that phantom 3 pt. foul on Scoop (I think it was a Smith jumper near the end of the shot clock)? That gave Fried Chicken University 3 freebies -- would have given us the lead at half. I DVR'd the game and rolled that play over several times in slo-mo ... the only part of Scoop that contacted anything was three of his fingers touching the ball. Terrible call.

We got a few whistles our way from Burr (even a blind squirrel finds a nut now and then), so I'm not complaining.

It was Burr on that call. As the play developed he was running towards mid-court, there was a Louisville player in the way, he ran to get a clear view and then made a terrible call.Oh Lord

Ok, thanks, OE. This adds another dimension to Burr's symptomology. Before, when he was in position and had a clear view, he couldn't see. As of late, he can't keep up with the action.

At this point, I think the other officials should overrule everyone of his calls, unless he can answer all 4 of the following questions:

1- Were you anywhere close to the action?;
2- If so, having gotten close enough, were you able to swivel your head towards the play?;
3- If so, having swiveled your head towards the play, could you see what happened?; and
4- If so, having seen what happened, did you see an actual foul?

If he was required to answer all these questions, we'd hear his whistle once or twice a game.
