Take 6-6 and a bowl? We haven't even played game 1 yet. It looks like we have two very viable candidates at qb, defense should be really really good. A bit thin a o line but really good running backs and inexperience at wr. If Marrone left us in good shape which I firmly believe he did we will fill the gaps. lemon and Sales will be missed for sure but setting the bar at 6-6? I'm not saying that it would be a horrendous season or anything of that nature but let's at least shoot for 8-4... Come on.

It's called reality. I m sure we all want to go undefeated but that is not reasonable. I think 7-5 this year myself

Anything less than 14-0 is unacceptable.

Reality is just another name for basketball season. What's the problem?

I'll take 6 and 6 with a bowl, no question. We need to string together a few more winning seasons to really re-establish ourselves.

I never understand this "reality" ... It's the sane reality that said we couldn't beat Mizzou on the road.

I shoot for the optimism I'd want my team to have. We can beat anyone. The end.

Hey optimism I s great. but if someone asks what someone's expectations are and they answer with some horsespit then what's the point. I agree we can beat anyone, we can also lose to anyone and there is your reality.

Minnesota
Rutgers
Cincinnati
Northwestern

All teams we could have beaten but didn't. Reality

But wait...I thought Liberals don't like to keep score?
youth leagues and high school.

in college its ok to keep score, provided you tell the lads & lass' that at the end of the season, you will all be even and tied for 1st!!!!

:bang::bang:
Oh Lord

I honestly don't have hard expectations. If pressed I say I'll be angry with anything less than 6-6. I think we can do better, but there's also the chance we could do worse. The last time we had to replace an NFL quarterback it took us 12 years to find a suitable one. We have a solid returning core but still have question marks on both sides of the ball. Our pass rush was suspect last year and that was before losing the guy that was supposed to step up this year and be our specialist. We saw how many times the secondary was made to look bad because we couldn't put pressure on the quarterback and that was with Thomas. I know it wasn't the case against Louisville and WVU, but we can't just keep looking at those two games and think we're going to play like that all of this year. We could still lay some eggs like we did against Minnesota, and if we do we could lose to anyone.

I'm excited for the season, but for me the excitement is tempered by our recent past.

What IB?

6-6 HCSS program doesn't lose any ground in the coaching changeover and go bowling

7-5 HCSS gets the program to FHCDMs best achievement level and decent bowl game

8-4 HCSS takes the program a step further than FHCDM ever did

My gut tells me we go 8-4 regular season or better this year but 6-6 is no What either.

This year's defense will keep us in every game. I really believe that we might have one of the top 10 defenses in the country.

You're probably getting ahead of yourself.

A lot of yards given up through the air last year. And wildly inconsistent on run defense. Gave up the three highest rushing totals that a Shafer defense has allowed here.

I agree 100%, were in the ACC not the SEC

Yes. We were great against pro-style running teams (Pitt), and sucked against spread option running teams (Cincinnati).

Its not about if Marrone left us in good shape its about taking an honest look at the schedule. Syracuse could play pretty darn good football the first two weeks and easily be 0-2. Penn State is a top 35 team with a lot of talent at the skill position. NW is a top 20 team who we have to face on the road with a new QB in his first true road test. Now add in Florida State and Clemson and thats 4 games against pretty good teams 3 of which are in the top 20. Games against NC State, Maryland, Ga Tech are all toss ups and despite the fact they should be down I dont believe the Pitt game will be some picnic. With the question marks at WR, Oline, and D End I think a 6-6 season wouldnt exactly be a disaster.

If you think 6-6 is wrong expectations based on the fact this team has no proven QBs on the roster and lost a 3 year starter at QB and the backups got absolutely no playing time during that timeframe we lost two of the most productive WRs in the program history in Lemon and Sales and lost a 1st round OL. I want to win every single game we play but I am realist not an idealist and as result when I look at the roster I could see this team going anywhere from 5-7 to 8-4. As long as we go to a bowl I am happy and consider this transactional season a success. This team and program needs talent infusion and the only way we get better athletes is to have consecutive winning seasons and getting better recruits. I think Marrone saved the program from going belly up but the talent infusion wasn't major under his watch his coaching allowed this team to succeed and Nassib at QB helped Marrone as well. Marrone has increased the depth of the team, but he hasn't brought all the athletes we need to get the program where we fans want it. 6-6 is a good season for SS and allows the momentum to continue.

only games that aren't 50/50-60/40 type games this year are Clemson and FSU... 10-2 is looking good #BELIEVE

Allen will take a regular season NFL snap before Nassib does.

8-4 (9-4)

Oh Lord

There's just a lot of transition going on this year. There's a good chance we could start out 0-2.

This is probably a polar opposite to my approach on wins/losses 10 years ago (or what I might write in the heat of a gameday chat). But from the big picture perspective I can't get all that upset that if, in this particular season, we lose to Penn State, @ NW, Clemson, @ FSU, and then two out of three from @ GT, @ NC State, @ Maryland.

As long as we're competitive and we think we can use the momentum of 2 straight bowl seasons + IPF + these recruiters to move us to the next level.

Agreed...6-6 in my book with be a major disappointment
