Seth Davis on the Battle for Atlantis

For the thousands of fans who made their way to this year’s tournament, the games were but a joyful diversion between visits to pools, the slides and the casino. For the eight teams in the field, however, the holiday was all business.

Okay, first of all, he clearly does not understand SU fans. The games were a "joyful diversion?" What an idiotic statement. They are life and death!! Any Orange fan knows that. Sheesh.

Didn't realize or pay attention to the quote by Coach about playing only 6 being a real problem for us. I thought maybe he had pooh poohed that and that we were all shizzing out because that's what fans do. But if he says it's a problem, it's a problem. So, let us not for one second think Boeheim isn't pondering this, along with about 100,000 of the rest of us.*

*So, typing that made me wonder: how many SU fans are there? Is 100,000 way off the mark?

Has to be many more than that. If 35,000 can show up to a single game, there are at least 10x that many.

Yeah I'd put the number at a couple hundred thousand just in CNY alone. Not diehards, but fans of some sort.

Pretty sure there are about 100 billion. I mean who isn't an SU fan? Plus we're really big in China.

I think we're really popular wherever there is a need for lightly used 26-0 t-shirts

Not only that, but he got the math wrong.
I didn't read the article, but if he did say that they played three games in 36 hours, he isn't far off.

The UConn vs. Michigan game started around 9:45 pm on Wednesday night
The UConn vs. Syracuse game started at around 3:30 pm on Thursday afternoon
The UConn vs. Gonzaga game started at around 12:30 pm on Friday afternoon.

So, if you're purely talking about complete games, they played three complete games in a ~41 hour stretch. The turnarounds aren't helpful to them, but at the same time, I wouldn't consider them to be anything too crazy either.

Seth: I still think UConn was the best team in Atlantis. He just can't refrain from being an a$#hole.
Sure because a team that went 1-2 with all their key parts playing is the best. Right.

so they played within a 41 hour stretch, everyone else played within a 48 hours stretch at maximum. the bottom line was two nights of sleep and 3 games which was the same for all 8 teams. he had the supposed deep team with his merc transfers and got run off the court twice.

Rodney Purvis is their second best player?

He was certainly one of the key contributors to our victory.

Fair enough. He was accurate to within 14%. Not bad for a Uconn guy.

There are a few small pockets out along the nether reaches of the continent ... ;)

Plus we're really big in China.

That's true. Here's a photo of some of them.

You are not including the drinks by the pool, the complimentary escorts provided by Rick Pitino, and the Madame Curie look alike contest. UConn had a lot going on in short amount of time!
