Class of 2024 SF Cooper Flagg (ME)

Yep, he's ridiculous. I can't stand the thought of him going to Duke. I never thought he would play in college, but now it is looking like he will play a year there. Gross.
Yeah he’ll play in college. With the new rules (NIL), he’ll make quite the bag in college (Duke) lol

He could probably make even more elsewhere. But, he will go to Duke and perpetuate the myth that they get guys to the league...blah blah blah...brotherhood...puke

No doubt he is an outstanding player that could be first pick in 2025 draft. My question - for as good as he is, why didn’t he play on the 17U AAU team?

My guess is, because he didn't have to. His stock is already super high. Plus, he plays on the same AAU team as his twin brother. Logistically, it is probably the best choice for his family while not hurting his ranking.

Ehhhhh I’m gonna be honest. He’s that good. He could play in the G-league this summer and put up double doubles. He’ll be a top 2 pick in two years.

Then he should play in the g league.

Btw, I 100% think Klutch is trying to nab him.

Eh. He needs to go after the challenge. Hanging with your bro doesn’t cut it anymore.

Ha, I said to someone last week that he is the next KD. That is funny.
Who knows how he progresses, but I would say he is further ahead than KD at this point. His shot is nice, but lacks rotation, but he is a better all around player than KD at the same age.

You have to be kidding me.

Nope, not kidding at all. KD at 16 years old was nice, but Cooper at 16 is even better.

He isn’t. I saw KD in high school. You’re talking a kid that isn’t playing up, isn’t going G League and hasn’t been tested at any real level to anoint him better than KD

Come on.

KD was a bucket from day one.

And I like Flagg, but this is crazy.

Maaaan I don’t know. He was cooking Bradley Beal at a camp last week.

I’m no expert on this but I can’t remember any kid I thought was a sure thing like this. I thought Zion wouldn’t be anything special. Ha.

KD was a tall beanpole with a great stroke at 16. He was nice. He wasn't the defender that Cooper is right now and he just wasn't as good. He developed to what he became a couple years later, but at 16, Cooper is ahead. Flagg has played plenty of good competition. He has played at Montverde for a year and is going back this year. That is a pretty good schedule, wouldn't you agree? KD went to Oak Hill for his senior year, Cooper went to Montverde his JR year.

Just agree to disagree. Let’s see Flagg’s D once he gets to lay against real competition.

I think Cooper is a sure thing and the best American prospect since Lebron, but playing at Duke is weak.
I agree, it's easy. He becomes the next 5 star white dude in the faux-brotherhood bullshit. He literally could go to any college with big NIL and have a chance at the F4. At Duke, he will get a lot of hype though, we know ESPN loves Duke.

We do disagree on this, it's cool. But, KD was not a great defender, is he now? Flagg has shotblocking instincts and the strength and bounce to mix it up. He isn't Charles Oakley in there, but his frame is much better than KD, the kid actually has shoulders. Maybe he never develops, but I just believe at this stage he is further along. KD became the best offensive player in the NBA, that is a long way to go for Cooper, but who knows?

Need to see more but I don't recall KDs handle, as a playmaker specifically being as good. He definitely could handle it to create for himself. Flagg does seem a good bit stronger at the same level.

As a scorer and shooter KD was pure and just on an unreal level. Not sure even as good as Flagg is- his shot isnt as pure as KDs was then. Flagg is however better through contact at that stage.

Defense definitely is probably the true final measuring stick given the reputation Flagg has and some impressive numbers as a shotblocker.

Like with any of these kids really need to see more. Flagg has all the tools though and the frame to be worth the hype at this point. I think in general it's also always difficult to evaluate guys from different time periods.

Also as an aside..as great as KD has been - if he only was stronger from the getgo and had the same game at 25 lbs heavier... and not been so injury prone.. he may well have been on track to even blow past Bron for all time scoring record

Well said.

At 16 I'm cool with him being a kid for a while longer. Once you become an adult there's no going back. He's got the rest of his life to be a pro. Why not have fun with your bro as long as you can if it doesn't hurt your draft prospects?

He played at Montverde last year. They play a killer schedule. And, at practice, he played against top 20 upper classmen like Kwame Evans, Sean Stewart, Derik Queen, Asa Newell and Liam McNeeley.
