We’ve got Quincy too. We’re not going to play 4 forwards.

Isn't Griffin more needed at guard? We need a fourth guard more than a 5th forward and neither Marek, Quincy, Robert or Woody are back court material.

C- Bourama Sidibe, Jesse Edwards, John Bol Ajak (If we get Tape, Edwards redshirts)
Marek Dolezaj,Quincy Guerrier, Robert Braswell, Woody Newton
G- Buddy Boeheim, Joe Girard, Alan Griffin, Kadary Richmond.

3-4-4, the way a roster should be. Who starts and the minutes to be determined.

Griff isnt coming here to come off the bench...

This was our roster construction between 2010 and 2014 when we were top 10 every. Size everywhere including to the bench Braswell doesn't play much next but Marek will be a senior and Braswell will have 2 years left

perhaps he plays both spots, but I don't see him starting at SG over buddy, he's not a pg, so the default spot is sf. I do see him playing sg for buddy, hopefully at least 7 mins a, 20 mins at sf, and Guerrier playing both of the forward spots. Guerrier could also potentially lose minutes and a starting spot in all of this. Whoever works the hardest starts and that's a good thing. No one should be handed a spot like girard and buddy were this year.

Girard wasn’t handed anything. He took it away from the guy they tried to hand it to.

True story, but he took it from someone who was injured and then had season-ending surgery. By default, he was then handed the keys for the remainder of the season, because there was no one who was able to play his position. Agree? If not, who would have played pg? Certainly not buddy, lol, hughes would have been my choice but not ideal, and Goodine would have been my 2nd, but he was not granted permission.

Ideally, yes we need 4 guards.

However, Griffin is coming here to play the 3. He could swing to the 2 if we don't add a 4th guard, but that would only be to cover in case of fouls/injury. But, he will primarily play the 3.

Ehh Carey was healthy by January. He didn't play because he wanted the medical redshirt because his spot got ran.

We’re not rolling with 4 guards...barely ever again with the way the game/college ball is with “I’m not going to wait my turn”. JG and Buddy will play atleast 30-35 mins agame (Buddy the 35 and JG on the 30ish scale) and Kadary takes the rest. It’s going to be hard to have Kadary off the floor but JB gon JB.
Injury? Griff will make to spot mins there if needed

Handed a spot ?

That's funny - every other guard who got a chance the bed early in the season

Carey - awful
Goodine - awful

Everyone hates coach so much that they don't realize that Buddy was by far most productive 2G on the roster - should not play 40 - but he earned his spot

This is a great get and one that most certainly changes the potential trajectory for the next season.

On that note, and not to be a buzz kill but it has to be difficult to make such a decision right now for Griffin and hopefully soon with Tape. There are so many questions with no answers right now for all athletics at all levels.

I can't imagine being able to make a decision like this at this moment. Definitely thrilled about getting this kid and possibly Tape. That said having no idea what this means until the country begins to attempt normalizing makes it hard to get too excited just yet.

How did this go from Girard being handed the keys at pg to everyone hating coach, because Buddy was by far the most productive 2g on the roster? First off, do not put words in my mouth...you are acting like a UNC fan. Secondly, Goodine was not awful... he never even played enough for anyone to make that kind of assessment. 1-3 mins a game is not by any means a way to evaluate player production. If you think that, then you are uneducated. 3rd, since you bring up Buddy, he was not by far the most productive 2g on the roster, that would be Mr. Elijah Hughes, who was an undersized sf and whose natural position is sg, which is exactly where he will be playing in the NBA. Buddy, as was Girard, were handed over the keys to spots they did not deserve. That's a fact, and that is why we were so bad this year. Stats on his defense reflect that...he was at the bottom of d1 and acc in all defensive categories. Buddy is a nice role player, but he's 1 dimensional and will never play in the NBA.

While Tape would be a nice luxury, this is the guy we needed.
Few thoughts:
  • For those that cannot remember his father, Adrian Griffin, was a helluva player at Seton Hall (and had a lengthy pro/NBA career). Real good pedigree. We also now have three players whose fathers were players: Buddy, Alan, JG3.
  • This is cosmic Big East karma for us missing out on Khalil Whitney and having Taurean Thompson fake his own death while in our program.
  • Add Tape ... keep Braswell, and we have top 15 talent.

Not sure about top 15 talent, but we could be ranked next year if we get tape. Maybe not preseason, but I believe we will have most of the pieces, minus a true pg, to get us there. Girard is serviceable, as he handles the ball well and can drive to the basket...he needs to work on distribution, defense and not taking bad shots. Buddy needs to work on passing, lateral quickness, and defense. Guerrier needs to finish better, start hitting outside shots and learning to pass. Those 3 need to improve the most, and with Tape and Griffin, we could be a top 25 team and contender.

Braswell doesn't make or break us, but he showed potential with his shooting and athleticism...those are the players you want to keep who turn into the James Southerlands's, Josh Paces, Kueth Duany's and CJ Fair's...they are glue guys by their senior years.

So he had surgery and sat, so he could lose a year knowing he would transfer and lose another year? Doesn't make sense. He took the medical thinking he would play next year, and then when he saw what was happening at the guard positions, he decided the safest bet was a transfer...I would have done the same...Not one, and I mean no one, not even Michael Jordan, is taking Buddy's spot for the next 2 years.

I know orange19 (you crack me up btw) or whatever your handle is lol, back to Griffin, and I am ecstatic about this get...He brings a lot to the table which we are losing with Hughes. This is huge!!!

I am not a blind Glens Falls JG3 lover, but I am confident that Girard is gonna be the most improved player on the squad next year. He’s played a bunch and he now knows first-hand what he has to do to improve. It’ll be fun to watch him put SU in position to win big games without scoring 40 ppg like he’s had to do his whole life.

And Griffin is going to be a prime benefactor.

I agree...He was overplayed, but I love his potential. I want them all to do well, but I do not feel that coach put them in the best position to win. I believe everything revolved around Buddy, and that's just not a way to coach a team. I love Buddy, and he would be an awesome 6th man on any team, but he's not starting material on a top 25 team.

Brycen wasn’t awful in general but he was awful at PG when we saw him there. Griffin isn’t coming here to play PG but I’m glad he can be another option for whenever JG sits because we don’t want to see Buddy at the 1 and Kadary should be fine but we all expected Brycen to be ok handling the 1 at least in limited minutes and he wasn’t.

This is a great get cant believe we are replacing Eli with such a quality proven guy. I like our returners but was worried about filling such a large role didn’t think anyone was a good fit to be the guy. He’s his own player and I don’t want to compare him to Eli but from a roster building perspective this is like Eli returning.
