Shafer: "Tim's our offensive coordinator moving forward."

Shafer stated that Lester will have the opportunity to do what he sees fit with the offense this offseason. Looks like Lester is our guy moving forward into next year.

Not what I wanted to hear. No knock on Lester, he was thrust into a very tough situation on the fly but I do not like his game calls if in fact, he's actually making the calls right now.

I did note Cool Kid was huddling with Long on almost every time out, break against NCSt which I found strange.

Why does being a Syracuse fan have to be so stressful.

Shafer aint breakin up the crew. No matter what.

I currently have no opinion on his play-calling as he has had to use a playbook that was not designed by him, both in play selection and syntax. He's probably very limited in what he can call based on that and using a freshman QB. Next year, I'll have more of an opinion. I'm willing to let the rest of this season slide, though I would love to make a bowl game.

overall, this has to be one of the worst coaching staffs in America. Everyone is in over their head. uggh.

the same people complaining about lester and mcdonald are the same people with brains in their heads
Right, because Lester and McDonald have complete control over losing 6 offensive starters to injury. Maybe you should start another thread about the negative effect of dome dogs having on crowd noise.

There are other possibilities for OC in the world other than Lester and McDonald. But I guess it is more important for Shafer not to break up the band.

The double reverse flea flicker with the battered O-line makes me question his ability moving forward. That play killed whatever momentum we had.

bad schemes and injuries are not necessarily mutually exclusive.

injuries have nothing to do with pitches to ameen moore in the end zone or quintuple reverse flickers (nkr great minds...)

shafer gets another year, if he wants to put it on lester, ok

hopefully the next coach is the OC and none of this will matter soon enough

It wasn't a great playcall. You really need an OL who can keep everyone out of the backfield for about 3 seconds while that develops. Maybe even longer. Mo died when AJ threw the pick 6, though.

Give credit where credit is due, that was George, not Lester. He's had Gumby at QB, which makes this such a tough project to succeed with. Playcalling has been markedly better. OL play declines with injuries, RB success declines with OL injuries, Long can't keep the ball out of the other team's hands, etc. Giving Lester a full cupboard with Hunt, et al. will be how we can truly judge him.

What did you expect him to say there? Something that would de-stabilize the team?

This is the line you say when asked that question in-season.

He would be a poor HC if he were to waver on Lester in the media right now.

Look I know u guys won't like to hear this but injuries really do severely effect teams especially ours cause of a lack off quality backups. We may have a few but not what we need yet. Do we do some boneheaded now and then, yeah we do. (8 second double reverse when we can't pass block for 3 sec). But I asst. coached a h.s. Team that lost its best 6 kids due to injuries 4 for 4 games and 2 for most all of them and it decimated us. When we had all starting line we do well. Broyld and Estime are our dynamic guys. That really hurts. We need everyone and as we increase our backups ability to come in and not notice a difference between first and sec string then we won't be in this predicament. Give them time. Scott will do right by us. Plus we don't have a choice.

You could always apply for the SU job. If you need some experience apply straight away to a high school program. Pick a program where you can turn it around quickly, and then you will become a hot commodity. If you do really well you could even end up someplace like Auburn.

i have no problem with what he said.

shafer will get another year and hopefully lester is better than he appears this year.

i'm not that bent out of shape. i just don't think this is the right way to go. it won't be forever.

I like what he's at least trying to do much, much, much more than MacDonald.

Simplified the personnel groupings, less fire drills.

He's using two backs more, but I'm not sure what the beef is. It's as close to a B12 spread as we have seen here to date.

All gun/pistol, if there is a TE, he's not in line much that I've noticed, most common formation I saw was a 3 X 1 with one back or 2 X 1 with two backs and one back, usually Phillips, going in motion.

OL splits seemed wider than I remember.

It's not like they are showing bunch formations, going to two TE's inline, or running the power I, not that I wouldn't mind seeing that in appropriate situations.

Not sure how you can form any kind of real opinion after 4 games running someone else's offense.

What we've seen is McDonald's offense, modified on the fly with no bye week, using a 3rd string freshman at QB and a rotating group of backup linemen.

if mcdonald were fired at the end of the year and they could do a normal search for an offensive coordinator, tim lester would be pretty far down my list

nothing i've seen this season changes that. maybe the injuries spoil everything for lester. oh well. we don't owe him anything. demoting mcf***it gave lester a great opportunity even with the injuries.

i think of him like an interim. interims really need to impress to become permanent in my book

all depends on whether you look at as - did he he do enough to win the job or did he do enough to lose it. i don't think it should be his until he loses, he needs to show me more because there are lots of guys out there (chip says "don't i know it!!")
