Shots fired! Anybody hear JB today with Brent Axe?

You don't think he needs to respond to every quip? Look I love JB. But he is the very personification of thin-skinned.

He does respond - but why? Thin-skinned, to me implies a lack of confidence. I think he responds out of competitiveness. And I prefer that to the Roy Williams "golly gee" stuff.

He probably only comes off as spiteful to SU fans and people who already disliked him. And I hardly think being called out by Jay Williams will damage his credibility. He's once again drawn attention to himself with these comments about SU. Easy pickings, as long as JB is here to take the bait.

Does he really need to draw attention to himself at this point? He has his own radio show. He's in the studio for the tournament, unless he's calling games. He can write a column whenever he wants.

At best, he's trolling us. But considering that he was tweeting about 'Cuse during a commercial break for a game he was doing commentary for, I think it's safe to say it's personal.

I think you're right, it is personal. But I think he's also an attention whore with a big ego to feed.

It's literally all anyone is talking about re: our run. He's asked the question at every presser. He should lay down?
He could say he's done talking about it. He's said that about a lot of other topics.

It's who he is. That competitive fire is what has motivated him since he was a kid.

I'd say it's gotten him pretty far.

It's fine but most of us change at least a little from the time we're kids to the time we're 65 or 70 or whatever JB is. I honestly don't mind at all it's just odd to me unless it's purely as a motivational ploy. I mean, realistically, JB can get upset but he really can't say too much about people questioning a 19-13 resume with some bad losses, right? And the answer to who they've beaten in the tournament is as simple as saying, 'we've beaten the teams in front of us.'

I don't mind, honestly, but it just surprises me that he wastes energy on the gottleibs of the world.

Yeah, agreed. I'm hoping it is motivational because it becomes more silly and windbag-esque as each day passes. First he thought it was 50/50 when he was interviewed on Selection Sunday. Then he thought they would be maybe in a play-in game. That's close enough to bubble territory to merit a valid debate. Now, it's agro-Boeheim with the whole journalistic credibility rant. Stop talking!

Are you guys new to this? It's been his personality for the first 70 years of his life. You were expecting something completely different in year 71?

And there's a massive difference between "I didn't think we'd get in" and "I didn't think we deserved to get it." Boeheim was in that bubble position four times in his career - and all four times the committee denied entry. So obviously a fifth time he was apprehensive at the very least. That's significantly different from not deserving.

I'm not normally a colin cowherd fan but he had a really insightful point today when he was talking about peyton manning potentially retiring as a denver bronco instead of a colt... a TON of really successful people are really thin skinned because those perceived slights are what drive them to be great. With regards to Peyton Manning, Cowherd is asserting that Manning is pissed that the Colts moved on from him so he is going to retire as a Bronco to spite them... he also referred to Jordan calling out his high school coach in his retirement speech as another example, Belicheck and his thin skin when it comes to media, etc... so maybe JB is think skinned and maybe it doesn't matter.

I see what you mean and he's not doing anything new. I know that and I'm not stupid. If you are on the bubble and it's 50/50 (according to JB) then some will say you deserve to get in and others will say you don't deserve to get in. Plain and simple. Get over it.

Fair point. I suppose I shouldn't be surprised. I guess just disappointed that at 71 he's still that sensitive. And, for the record, this team didn't 'deserve' to be included in any way, shape or form, in my opinion. I'm thrilled they are in and I certainly believed they were good enough and talented enough to be included in the field, but they did next to nothing after Maui to prove they actually deserved inclusion. Again, awesome that they got in, not surprising that they have proved to be a tough out, but as far as truly deserving inclusion that much more than other teams? I don't see that.

JB is a pseudo psychologist and forward thinking tactician with his use of the media. He wants to motivate a player that he hasn't been able to by conventional means.. so he calls him out in the press. He uses the press to his advantage and will shield his team from the media by taking on additional heat with a controversial topic or statement.

He wants his team to continue to play with an edge and underdog persona so he brings up the barbs about not belonging in the tournament. Unless it's an immediate post-game press conference where he is still heated (NOT 10 GAMES) then I assume everything he does is a strategic chess move. I think it's refreshing and better than coach speak straight out of Crash Davis' cliche book.
