LOL - pretty sure thats nothing to worry about.
Whenever somebody brings up his wife's family I have to laugh. BFD about that. It totally discounts where Marrone himself is from. Is Boots mad that he can't walk across the street to see his grandchildren? They are smart enough to know that if Marrone doesn't win enough to be able to coach there until he dies, he'll be moving back out of Knoxville within 3/4 years anyhow.
Money ain't everything to everybody and the Marrone's have plenty of money. And it sure doesn't seem like it's in Marrone's fiber to be chasing $$ signs.
Lying would also go against EVERYTHING Marrone stands for. There are two things in life most people hate - it's Liars and Thieves.
He was fired for much the same reason they can't get a coach now... the fans. They've created a near impossible environment for a coach to keep them satisfied. After '98, Florida's down period post-Spurrier, and Alabama's down period pre-Saban they developed the delusion they were the dominant program in the SEC. This despite having only beaten Florda 6 times since 1990 when the game became an annual one and having a losing record in the Alabama series. Now they feel entitled to some big name coach, and if they don't get one, they'll demand both the coach and AD be fired if they can't beat Alabama and/or Florida by the second year of whoever is hired. I love the humble pie they're having to eat right now. After all the good Fulmer did there, he should have been given the chance to right the ship.
Because that is Brett Bielema.brett beliemia lied (or strongly misled) to his team 12 hours before he went to arkansas. barely anything said about that.
i agree with everything you said...
that being said - if there is ever a job that will garner mutual interest - this is it.

That's what has made UT fans so comical through this thing. They actually think receiving an offer form UT is like having a victoria secret model ask you out on a date and can't fathom anyone turning it down, including Gruden. No mention of Marrone on the local radio here - mostly Jones, Fedora, Smart and Pelini. I don't think this search has been the disaster a lot of UT fans are making it out to be, but it still hasn't gone well. Strong staying at Louisville is completely reasonable and it was unreasonable to expect Gruden in the first place. The big mistake was letting it be known that Gundy was offered; I can't imagine him leaving Ok St for any other college job. UT is still a top 10 coaching position but I don't expect Marrone would take the job if offered.
Completely true. The fact that he's still the main topic on all the UT boards is hilarious; their fans are pretty insane and are losing their minds over getting turned down for Louisville. Even with all the craziness, their program will be just fine - huge budget, still great support and amazing facilities. They just really should bite the bullet and hire Petrino. That's what has made UT fans so comical through this thing. I think the AD should do his job and find a good coach that isn't necessarily a name. Every big name coach was a nobody at some point. Everyone went "huh" when Tressel was hired at Ohio State. Everyone in the SEC said Urban Meyer's offense wouldn't work in the SEC before he won NC's. Then the fanbase needs to give the guy time to build things the right way. If he initially loses a bit but you see a team that executes well and plays physically, show recruits that you're behind the coach so he can bring them in.Completely true. Living in Knoxville, I have this internal conflict. Do I root for the no name coach to succeed so I can take satisfaction that the moronic fanbase was wrong or do I hope for him to lose so UT can stay on the coaching/losing carousel and I can grin at their dispair?
I agree is wouldn't fly with the fanbase either. If they keep chasing names they may just keep coming back to where they are now.:bat:Interesting dilemma. I work with a few UT grads and they're really shaking their heads today..I get behind Vandy more than UT but do support both of the schools. I don't think going after an under the radar candidate is going to fly, especially after the Dooley mess but I agree that it could work out very well for them.
