The refs were using a magic 8-ball to make calls tonight. It was absurd at points of the game.

Realistically though, we just absolutely are way better than this Florida team. I don't know if they are overrated or their missing player made that big of a difference or what. But that game, we shot like dog poo from 3, didn't play to our strengths, turned it over a lot, and never got a single call. Meanwhile they hit a miracle amount of stupid heaves from 30 feet and we still whipped them comfortably. I'd slot this Florida team in as a mid-lower teir Big East team (in the mold of Villanova, Cinci, etc from last year). I doubt they would win 10 games in conference.

Was just going to post the same thing (about the refereeing).

They got early calls. JB worked the refs. We got the calls late. Nice job by JB. He's so underrated sometimes. He's great.

Outside of UK, SEC is worthless in hoops. Who the hell ranked both Flordia and Vandy (VANDY are you kidding me??) in top 10? Vandy is gonna have their 3rd loss tonight.

However I'm concerned with our trend of playing our "C" game against BCS teams. Same as VTech, same as Stanford. You can just feel we should run away from these lesser teams but we never do. Not a good sign.

And yet Bilas said they're the second-best conference after the Big Ten...

Spot on, Through the whole game, even when they took the lead for a short time, I never had the feeling we might lose. In the Stanford and VTech games there were time that I felt we might lose. Florida is just too small and one dimensional to be a top 10 team. They'll be lucky to be ranked at all midway through this year.

SU played very good D this game. UF is an absolutely great 3pt shooting team, they made about 5 +24ft 3s, and they will have a excellent record this season. You under estimate how well SU played.

Oak, you may be right. I think our defense may be way better than we even give it credit for. If not for those 25 - 30 footers, what offense did they have? And if your defense is making people take 25 - 30 footers, even if some go in, thats a good defense.

Must have killed BlueCurtain when Bilas said that the problem with the zone is that it takes you out of your rhythm offensively...whoops!

No way that Florida is a top-ten team.
They were missing one of their best players tonight. I guy that probably would have made a difference because he could have flashed to the top of the zone and hit the open shot.

I'm not sure if they are top ten, but they are a very good team that can make a run in March.

Walker, Boynton and Beal are all really good to great players. They'll be a 4 or 5 seed in the tourny.

Most evenly called game I've seen in a long time.

Every call went against the wrong team.

My favorite call was actually a non-call. In the 2nd half i think it was beal who drove baseline, got caught up in the air under the basket and so obviously landed before he passed the ball. Couldnt believe they didnt call a travel or an up and down or whatever its called. He ended up throwing it out of bounds, but since when can you jump in the air with the ball and land while still holding the ball? LOL

May need to Lee Corso you on that one.

I didn't feel like the officiating was egregiously bad; but I tend to go into most CBB games expecting the home team to get ~65% of the calls. Maybe I shouldn't do that but realistically that seems to be the reality of most games. This game looked about what you'd expect out of a typical road game. Not sure if that's my bias or if we really just don't get the home cooking other teams seem to.

I'd say maybe even a 3 when they get Murphy back. They are a good team. We shouldn't be dismissive of a team we really had to work to beat at home without one of their key players, and with Beal having his worst game this year. That's a high quality team.

He also came down clearly out of bounds by about a foot. I rewound to watch it a few times during the commercial break trying to figure out how that ref missed two blatantly obvious calls.

I think they're a darn good team. Two guards with unlimited range, a decent undersized big, a good big who was out, and the guy who's allegedly their best player who was pretty invisible tonight. They'll win a lot of games this year. So will we, I think. This was pencilled in as a loss, but our defense was great.

4 seed? That was a really good team we just played. I will bet you a dollar we just beat a 2 seed. Very, very good backcourt.

That was a crazy call and the official was standing right there watching. How the **** could he have missed it?

There was a travel on the big right before or after that mysterious out of bounds play. guy just made 2 pivots without a dribble. even bilas called it. officiating was pretty bad. we got hammered a few times in the first and second half.

i really couldn't believe what i was hearing on some of the calls but at least they were wrong both ways. refs sucked!

During these conf challenges, don't they usually use officials from the visiting conf. I don't know, never payed much attention to officials names, other than Burr/Higgins, but I didn't recognize their names during pre game so I'm guessing they were SEC officials? If so that would explain why they didn't seem to know much about basketball.

I respectfully disagree with you on a few points.

I think Florida looked really good, especially since they were without a major player that could have helped them on the boards. I think - as another poster stated - that while there were a lot of bad calls, they were distributed pretty evenly among the teams. The miracle threes? I don't consider those miracles at all - that's what Florida does. That's the kind of player Billy Donovan was, that's what Pitino teaches and does ans so that's what Donovan the Disciple does too. That scared me last night because that's how Louisville and Pitino beat SU all the time.

SU played well enough to win last night and it was an exciting game to watch, but if Florida had another big man in the middle, it could have been a very different game. They absolutely deserve that top ten ranking. They came to a hostile environment, and played a top team right to the end. What you guys are seeing that contradicts that I do not know.
