If we can't beat St. Johns without Mussini or Cornell then the season isn't going anywhere anyway. There isn't much upside to playing him tonight IMO and I would rather see him closer to 100 percent as he has dominated his last 3 halves. It's better to have him closer to 100 percent for all the ACC games than to play him these next two and not have him fully healthy. Achilles injuries are nothing to mess with.

Yes, please sit him. I never injured my Achilles but if it's anything like a hamstring I'm concerned.

I say don't start him, but bring him in if he's needed. I don't think we can afford another non-conference loss. From reports, he's walking absolutely fine, no limp. Now, we all know walking and playing a D1 college basketball game are two completely different things, but if he can play and we need him to win, then he has to play.

That was my thinking originally. But then I was concerned if it became an emergency and we needed him, he might start pressing and cause it to get worse. But I can see both perspectives - sitting him out and doing it this way.

What about starting him in hopes of building a good lead in the first 10 minutes, and then sitting him for the remaining 30 minutes? I agree with jordoo that we need to get better as a team and all the pieces need to be there.

If he can go he should. This team needs to build chemistry if its going to keep its head above water in the conference season. They ain't going to do that with Lydon on the bench.

I think we let the medical staff make the decision. They know how bad or not bad the injury really is/was. Not us

That's stupid dasher. Clearly we should be making this decision. Can't trust those guys, but between the lot of us, we know what's best for Lydon specifically, and the team in general.

Obviously. I just hope the player proceeds with caution. He doesn't seem like a guy that will want to sit regardless of medical opinion.

I'm just trying to figure out which one of you is Brad Pike because I agree - I'm sure he is furiously searching the board for advice.

Yes, we have become more intelligent with injuries. Everyone knows that playing with sore achilles potentially leads to ruptures. That's what happened to Kansas City Chiefs Derrick Johnson.
That would mean he's not healthy. I think you're missing my point. You don't play him less, or only put him in if we need him. If he's healthy he plays, if not he sits.

It will have only been 48 hours since he hurt it in the last game -
better to rest him as a precautionary move, even if he is "healthy" enough to play.

I know plenty of people who have had Achilles issues become chronic, because they didn't treat it/rest properly in the early going, and/or came back and did too much, too soon.

In my snarky, JB kind of way - I am really just trying to say he either plays full out, or he sits. Anything else to me is foolish.

Or...do they
I would think so. Can you imagine if jb played someone that the medical staff said was too injured to play and they guy got hurt? The publicity would drive jb or any other coach out of the game.

not too long ago didn't dajuann coleman sit out a year then play one game and walk off the court not to be seen for another 12 months ?

Two positives if we do this.

Lydon will be healthy and Roberson will get more PT to possibly be at the top of his game come ACC time.

Needs to get done IMO.

Yeah, like OP said. Sit Lydon. If we can't beat these guys considering THEIR injuries then we have major problems.
