I looked at BBref for some context that people should consider:

1) There are 65 first year coaches this season (not necessarily their first team, but first year with a team).

2) I count 35 rookie head coaches this season and only 14 have a winning record right now. Red is one of them and is currently 7th in W%.

[INDENT]Also, of those 35, Red is 1 of 2 rookie head coaches of a P6 team this season. The other being Josh Eilert at WV who is a last minute stand in. I think a rookie taking over a P6 school is a bit of a rarity, but the learning curve could be reduced due to the infrastructure at a big established program (e.g., Scheyer at Duke) versus a small lower D1 school running practices in a barn.
