Slow Time of Year...So Have at It

I don't have a strong take on this but it's crazy hed be ranked well ahead of Oates and Barnes.

Howard just outside the top 25 is just LOL.

Also it's absolutely bizarre to have a top 40 list of college basketball coaches and ours is nowhere to be found (nor is Dukes for that matter!)

Pearl above Cronin and Pitino is hysterical
I'm going to play Devil's Advocate re: Bruce Pearl. I know his personality rubs some the wrong way, but he's an excellent coach.

He's been successful everywhere he's been. Started out at D2 Southern Indiana in the 90s, made the tourney every year, and won a national title there.

Then he goes to Milwaukee, a program that never made the tourney in its history, and gets them to the tourney two out of his four years there, including a Sweet 16 berth in his final year in 2005.

Then he goes to Tennessee. In the four years before he arrives, zero tourney appearances. In his six years there, tourney every single year including an Elite 8.

Then he goes to Auburn in 2015, a program whose last tourney game was the 2003 Sweet 16 against us, and proceeds to turn them into a national contender. They were extremely unlucky in that 2019 Final Four game against UVA. A very controversial foul call at the end. If that goes their way, they are in a strong position to win a title.

Honestly, if anything, Pearl is rated too low.

I didn't look at the list but if he is rated ahead of Pitino, that is a bad joke.

Matt Painter, better coach than Pitino.

LEONARD HAMILTON, BETTER COACH THAN PITINO.

Sorry, I know these summer lists are just meant to troll fans and gin up outrage. I don't know what came over me there.

1990s/2000s Pitino > 2023 Bruce Pearl
2023 Bruce Pearl > 2023 Pitino

Now, if Pitino turns St. Johns into a national contender from nothing the way that Pearl turned Auburn into a national contender from nothing, I'll certainly reconsider this.

It's not just his personality...

I couldn't disagree with you more.

you don’t think Rick Pitino could lead Auburn to a seventh place finish in the SEC?

I can't stand Hurley, but Juwan Howard ranked ahead of him? I don't think Pitino should be lower than five.

I can't even bring myself to look at some list of a halfwit.

Leonard Hamilton. One of the most overrated coaches ever.

He seems to be able to accumulate talent, then has no clue how to use it. His substitution patterns make no freaking sense.
