SMU Postgame

I'd go a little more strategic than that.

We want 3 wins out of Pitt, GT, UNC, BC. I know before the season I was the "don't assume losses" guy, but things have changed and I'm assuming losses.

Carney only has 3 more games to play in to keep his redshirt. Turns out that one play he ran was kind of important. UNLESS Carney is QB1 the remaining 6 games, we've mismanaged the roster/his redshirt.
You are 3 and 3 will lose at home to Pitt. Lose at GT, Miami, Notre Dame, you might beat North Carolina, and BC at home.

Pitt looked really good today. BC and UNC might be the only winnable games left. This one was there for the taking but we can’t run for a yard and stuck with Ricky Picks

Yeah, I know it sounds crazy, but look, if you're going to cost a guy a redshirt, and potentially a year of earnings, in this NIL era you have to make the playing time count. That's the tradeoff. A reputation for wasting a guy's earning years will burn you.
Redshirts are overrated in today’s college football. You can’t assume anyone stays at the same school for five years.

Ricky teases the coaching staff. He has a good arm and can make some great throws, but he misses badly on simple throws to keep the offense on the field. He has a tendency to just throw and hope his teammate catches it. He did look much more comfortable running the football today.
Even when he makes good throws, though, he is locked on that one receiver right from the snap.

Legit arm but low football IQ

A tale as old as time…

Play calling near the goal was suspect. Almost nothing be running up the middle and getting stopped. Blocking was fair at best, and not good in the first half. D struggled in the first half too, but definitely improved in the second.

Rickie can throw the ball, but locks in too much and throws to receivers that are not open (and thus get picked). Or, just misses wide open recievers (4th down play and bomb should both have been TDs). The receivers didn't help him by dropping passes - Cook dropped one at least, and WIlliams dropped 2.

So much to fix. My guess is Collins gets at least the first half of Pitt game, and then if still having issues, we will see Carney then.

I don’t buy the moral victory crap, but at least they kept playing until the end. Rickie really probably should be at the FCS level. If you can’t read a defense and look off your primary targets, you can’t start at the P4 level. We aren’t making a bowl, it is 2019 all over again. Sad part is we have the roster to win 7-9 games, we just lost the piece that made it all work.

This may be the most talented roster ever to win less than 6 games. I’m hoping we can get 2 more, but 3 wins is squarely on the table.
Rickie is not a FBS QB. If he's a QB. Fran has probably known that in his gut. Needed a QB; fell for the LSU pedigree. Make Rickie a RB or TE or at best QB2. Got to try next man up. I also put the loss on the O coaching staff. And Fran. Atrocious play calling in the 1st Qtr.

I'm afraid that will be like a manager waiting one out too long to take out the staring pitcher.

Edit: I meant to type starting pitcher, but I'm not changing it. Staring pitcher is wildly appropriate.
