SMU Postgame

He threw 3 INTs and had a QBR of 37 against the worst passing defense in FBS. Not sure how you scheme around that level of garbage. Hes got more picks than passing TDs on the season. Our run game needs some balance to be successful. I just dont know how you make it work with him as your starter.
Those 3 INT are deceptive, it should have been at least 7 or 8.

But that was before the true pay for play and instant transfer era. (I think).

But even if it wasn’t Ohio State is in a different stratosphere anyway. We only cared because their decision suddenly impacted us.
Chip, you're still not listening, the point is if you're going to blow, BLOW.

I’m one of them.

You can’t watch Angeli and then Collins and think that competition was close.

Not saying it was McNabb-Kevin Johnson level of BS, but it was some steaming BS.
I have no inside information and I know we “don’t talk to players until they’re in the portal” but there’s a 90% plus chance we knew Angeli was going in the portal and we had a good chance of getting him here. It’s the only thing that makes sense after seeing Rickie play.

Fran should have gone for fg on first possession. Take the pts and build confidence. Oc. not living up to stuff
Taken a lot of points off the board this year. 12-15? I think getting points makes sense to build the QB confidence and the team’s confidence in the QB. You win games by scoring the most points, not scoring the first TD.

SU 1st half offensive drives :
Turnover On Downs
PICK
PUNT
T.O.D.
T.O.D.
FG.

3-24 halftime and it already felt over. even the SMU home crowd was leaving.

There is things to nitpick. This is not one of them at all. We should be able to convert 4th and 1s. Analytics say to go for it. What if we miss the field goal? How would you feel?

I think we went for it on fourth down 5x in the first half. Seems a little aggressive in aggregate.
They were pretty much all very short yardage situations. Yeah it looks bad we didn’t convert them. But in those situations, winning coaches roll the dice, losing coaches play it safe. In the modern football game, you are supposed to roll the dice. We have a QB execution issue first and foremost.

Your serious. Did you not learn anything from the duke game? Did you learn anything yesterday?

2nd and goal, use play action and roll Collins to the right on a route that else can possibly run it in or pass it in. Get Rickie confidence. If he gets sacked and we are stuck with a FG, so be it. Do not come away empty. But we are not good as goal line offense. Maybe at midfield, when they have to respect a pass more. But not at the goal line.

I think Rickie getting his first TD run and first TD pass as clear QB1 is progress. But they need to get Carney ready… short leash on Rickie. If he is not better the first 4 drives of Pitt, it is time to move on.

Analytics says you don’t miss that FG and it’s better to have points on the board vs having no points and turning the ball over. Then add the psychical gut punch not being able to convert that early in the game that analytics can’t process.

I'd go a little more strategic than that.

We want 3 wins out of Pitt, GT, UNC, BC. I know before the season I was the "don't assume losses" guy, but things have changed and I'm assuming losses.

Carney only has 3 more games to play in to keep his redshirt. Turns out that one play he ran was kind of important. UNLESS Carney is QB1 the remaining 6 games, we've mismanaged the roster/his redshirt.
Why the heck was Carney put in for 1 play against Colgate? Good lord. Either 10 mins + or nothing. So dumb.
