So how does this class close out...

Im hoping... Morris...Morgan... Manley

Everybody but Barrett ends up going somewhere else or not qualifying.

Why expect anything more, the coach is a moron.

Didn't you hear he lost the team last year?

Did he lose the entire team or was the team just divided which would imply that half liked him and half didn't? Or maybe half didn't like him and half didn't like him even more?

This message board has me so friggin confused lately...

What is with the attitude and spite being shown on the board lately?

Agree with OP on those three and hopefully a nice surprise thrown in

The Admins lost the board...it happened with 5:37 left in the 3rd quarter against South Florida...

I heard a rumor that SUtomcat and Bees contracts are "not being renewed" and we are picking up an Admin from the New Mexico Technical College Board with a real flair for banning posters and one from the Montana A&M board who is really a closet Rutgers fan..Don't shoot the messenger

I hope everyone that is doubting Doug has to eat crow next year.

IMO, Doug has to build consistency before his doubters go away, back to back bowl seasons, a 10-3/ 9-4 season followed with an 8-5 season or something of that nature, I think this year another 8-5 season with our league would have gone a long way

The thing is, I doubt Doug, and I hope you are right. I will happily be the first one in line at the all-you-can-eat crow buffet.

Nothing cheers me up more than reading a good discussion about what recruits might pan out. The authors have no idea. They are hanging on interpretations of statements by people, many of whom haven't seen the kid play.

The Washington Post had a good article about failed NFL QBs who were drafted in the first round by people with four years of game film to look at, the results of physical tests, interviews by psycholgists and coaches and all manner of input. Even with all this they couldn't project how well these players would actually do.

Forecasting who is going to do what in college with the information available is a fool's errand.

I think winning solves everything and he does need to start going to bowls every year. I think being a football coach my self (not even close to college level) I tend to give a little more slack to them knowing how difficult it is. With that said however I by no means think he should stick around if he has another losing season this coming up year. But until that happens I will be giving my full support to the team and Doug rooting for a BE championship. I am an optimist so that's why I will always take that stance.
Calling it now we will score 24 plus points a game next year. I really think they realize they have no choice to open this playbook up. For people reading this I am not asking for a freaking bubble screen (hate that play) I am asking on 3rd and 10 not to run a draw go five wide and have your receivers sit in the open spots in the zone. If there playing man to man throw the freaking deep ball to the side that doesn’t have safety help. The QB and WR position should be strengths on O next year IMO. Hopefully the O-Line steps it up and it’s not like a flood gate opening every time Ryan goes back to pass. Trudo will be legit and I think he will help us out a lot on the line. I am a homer so feel free to bash lol

Wrong... there will always be doubters, even if you're winning. All it takes is a short losing streak and then everyone turns on the coach regardless of his history. It's a "what have you done for me lately" kind of world out there unfortunately.

I like your post, so don't be offended by my questions...

Couple of questions for you Nova (or anyone else who wants to add their opinion). I agree with you about the staff realizing they need to open up the playbook. Doug has said as much. I see the close to the vest offense the last two years as more necessity than choice, but that's my opinion, others differ.

When people talk about going 4 and 5 wide this past year, my question is with who? And I hate to bang on players, but we had one wide receiver capable (Lemon) of competing for a full year at this level that could catch balls thrown to him consistently.

And my second question is...had we spread the field, gone five wide, attacked the edges, played Kinder instead of Nassib, gone all in with the young kids and the end result was a 1-11 or 2-10 year, would anyone have been happy with that result?

Isn't it possible to find a happy medium between our current offense and totally going spread? Could we not run up the middle to Bailey on the first play of every game?

This is so true.

A lot of people on this board are in love with Bill Snyder right now, but

A) there'd be a certain segment totally pissed off that he lost two games; one would be deemed an epic azz kicking (58-17 loss) which is totally unacceptable for good coaches; that only happens to bad coaches and,

B) in the other loss they'd be killing Snyder because being a close game (52-45) there'd bound to be numerous coaching mistakes that happened during the game.

I'm going to be watching very curiously to see what Snyder follows up with next season. If he's 6-6 what will the lovebirds think?; what have you done for me lately.

I can see what your saying about the offense being dumbed down over necessity I think the majority of that had to do with our offensive line not holding up there end of the deal. This year I think SU will be much better off in the trenches which should give them time to run read routes with the wide recievers. If Sales comes back I think our WR core is going to be solid. The redshirt WR, Lemon, Sales (maybe), and Ron Thomas should be a nightmare to cover. I know Thomas is listed as a TE however his build is a nightmare. He is the only freshmen in my eyes that will come in and do big things for the program. People forget UM loved the kid the just ran out of ships and since Tyrone is with us we get a lot of shots with kids that get turned away from Michigan. Granted we don't land them all however at least he gets his foot in the door. IMO we are two more years away (needing back to back bowls) from having 4 and 5 star classes.
The second question I think is a great one this year we could have spread the field if we could make people honor it. If we could it would have allowed our RB's to have monster games. When your opponents play the 4 wide sets honestly the running lanes are massive despite average O-line play (see IthacaBarrel's avatar that guy makes a living off of that set). With that said Doug knows 100 times more football then I do so maybe he didn't feel Nassib and the skill guys could pull it off.

There is definitely truth to your post Townie, but I am going to go in a different direction for a moment. I firmly believe that in many cases, people making those decision drown themselves in data and make a very simple thing much harder than it has to be. Combine the fact that GMs make a lot of money to find the right mix of talent, with the fact they are investing a lot more money into these kids, and then throw ego into the mix, and holy hell, you have a mixture that would be the opposite extreme of one of this board's favorite words... "meathead."
