Be interested if CTO could shed some light on the BOT's involvement in the Shafer decision, and how much they will put the next hire in Coyle's hands. Also, wonder what Syverud's role in this was. Was it a hands off approach, did he initiate the push or somewhere in between.

I think it all comes down to the purse strings they are handing over to Coyle.

Not that I expect CTO to divulge any secrets, but it would be interesting to understand the vision Coyle laid out for SU football to that audience. I presume we'll know more when we see who is hired and at what salary (along with the budget for assistants). Seems SU has gone the frugal route for a while. Is this the time to step up or not.

Certainly discussed during AD interview process

Had to be. Coming off a 3 win season, I would guess it was topic #1, with Mike Hopkins' future being runner up.

Coyle to the BOT: " Gentlemen and ladies; in order to compete in the ACC you need a very very competent coaching staff and that costs money. You need facilities that match the competition and that costs money. You need to recruit the best possible players and that costs money. Winning costs MONEY. It will take money to get wins that will bring in fans paying to get into the Dome, money money money ef ing money. Do you see the common denominator here? Correct, money that will bring in more money? If there is no willingness to come up with the MONEY then u might as well be happy going 3-9 or 2-9 or once in awhile 4-9. This is all about money and winning brings in a lot more money than what is spent up front. "

Syverud and the BOT had to be involved, because they had to sign off on the decision and also sign off on any future decision to increase pay (which, supposedly, they're going to do) to hire the next coach.

How the hell did we make a bowl game, and win it, at 3-9?

;)
