Yeah, it seems that some SU fans are too sensitive ... or should I say ALL fans are like this? I don't think its just SU fans, I've read plenty of other team fans cry foul play about comments made by the media and I think, "Hmmm, that sounds like some SU fans!" As fans we have great desire for our team to be the best and root for it. The media, not so much.

Yeah but we are the 5th winningest college program of all time. We are not some smaller major. The media is annoying enough to pump up glorified midmajors over us over the years. The media rarely gives us the respect of a Duke, UNC or UK. We have to battle harder for our recruits and studs as well and a big part of that is media. In recent years though they have given us much more media and turned over a newer leaf for us hyped our coach and our carrier dome and its 30,000 fans.

And Doggie Gottlieb is just gushing about Seaton Hall, and says something to the effect of "The Hall is really the class of the Big East, except for Syracuse, who is unbeaten, but they haven't really played anyone yet, … … … … …"

And then, as he goes on in his college basket highlights, he says how good Florida is and how good a couple other teams we've beaten are, (Boy do I wish I had the tape).

So Douggie???, Let me see if I have this straight??? SU hasn't played anyone yet, Yet SH and Fla are really good?

Is there anyone in the national media that will say; "This SU team is REALLY, REALLY GOOD!"?
Anyone? Hello? Bueller? ...Bueller? ...Bueller? Anyone? Anyone?

The only people that like SU are Dickey Simpkins and Bobby Knight.

I like this post and think such an internally inconsistent line of comments is hilarious and worth pointing out.

Having said that, however, with respect to the dozens of posters who complain about the media bias or lack of respect, etc. (including several posts below), I think its silly personally. Its bad enough for players to constantly utter the overused "no respect" mantra, but at least it may be used by them as a self-motivator. But for fans, especially in college bball as opposed to college football, who cares. Perhaps such a medias bias, if we assume for a moment one even exists (which is curious in its own right, given the SU presence in the national media), could have a slight impact on a tourney seed, but other than that possibility, it matters not. I really dont get it, unless fans simply feel cheated out of a few "Syracuse is great" type comments from the pundits during the season. The only reason I care what a Bilas, or Gotleib, or Knight, says about SU is the extent to which I agree with that they say. In other words, I want to hear what they think of Cuse and why to get their opinion of the team. But if you dont agree with what they say, or think they are simply biased, then who cares what they say.

That is not to say the Duke bias is not a big deal, bc that often does matter. I am still waiting for the article to come out (maybe I've missed it) compling Duke's RPI, ranking, and tourney seed, compared to other teams RPI and tourney seed. I think it would be unbelievable to see that year after year they get the best possible seed based on their results. In fact, if I recall, the year Cuse got jobbed, Duke had superior but comparable results to SU and got a 4 seed.

It's not even debatable or close. They all have more wins, higher winning % and WAY more banners and FF's than we do.
It's an age old debate on this board but we aren't in their class and there is nothing wrong with saying that or admitting that.
We are a consistently winning program but a notch below those you mentioned.

And a big part of that is media which leads recruiting through hype, NBA rumors and things like that.

Every recruit in the country knows UK and UNC and cares. Not sure everyone cares about us but it seems like those times are changing the since the title.

I have to say the media has done a great job in recent years and Cuse is in that Kansas range. We are teams with great programs, systems, and have made our programs more respected that even some top recruits would deny UNC or Duke a verbal to play for us.

But there will always be media bashers.
Some of the media heads will make it sound like crap to play for us where they wouldn't do that to a UNC, Duke, UK, or Mich. St. I haven't listened to the media much this year at all because I am trying to advoid those people and they ruin it for the good announcers. Just so much ignorant program bashing and glorification in college ball. Its not like NFL football which is built on nonfavortism more.
