I have been a season Ticket holder for FB for the past four years and I have gone to every game these past four years - 24 straight. I have good seats (Preferred C, Sec 117, on the aisle about 25 rows back) and I love going to the games.

I just don't see the point in paying the extra money for season tixx anymore. I kept telling myself that these seats will be incredible will the team starts be more competitive and the place starts to sell out, but that just seems so far off right now.

I still plan on going to all the games, I just think I am going to buy $10 tixx from the scalpers. It's not like there really are any bad seats for a FB game. In fact, the higher up you go the better the view in most cases.

I think financially this is probably the smart decision, but somehow it just doesn't feel right like I am making a mistake.

How much are you paying annually? If your time is worth around with scalpers and finding multiple seats together in random sections, then knock yourself out. What a pain in the ass.

As a real fan and as long as it's not breaking your bank, you keep your season tickets. I'm not calling you out, I'm just giving you my opinion.

Season tickets are an ongoing investment for this program. They cannot afford to lose anyone, and frankly, they need to still significantly increase those numbers.

Keep the faith brother.

It's worth remaining a season ticket holder in 2015 just to see LSU in the Dome. I suspect they will have a lot of fans there -- perhaps like Penn State.

He'd still be able to get tickets. It's too easy these days. All you need to be is in the building, all seats are good. The big fallacy of our current pricing structure, that 50 yard line seats are worth 5X more than end zone. They're not. Not even double.

Personally I'd rather watch on TV than deal with scalpers. Some of my friends love it. Not for me. But it's also pretty easy to just decide on gameday if you want to go, walk up Gate B, and buy yourself as many tickets as you need. I'll bet anyone can do that for the LSU game next year.

There have been a few seasons here and there that i didnt keep my seasons tix but still continued to go to all the games. I never in my life bought a ticket from a scalper. You can almost ALWAYS find a FAN that will sell extras for face or below face. In my opinion though you might as well just do the endzone seasons tix for $100. Even when the program turns around and is back to it's old self it will still not be hard to get good seasons tix if you want to change back.

Ignore that "real fan" stuff. That's nonsense. Do what is best for you.

It's not a life-changing decision, you can always get season tickets again if you think it was a mistake to give them up.

And that's the problem SU faces... a lack of demand. Even when we were much better than we are today we rarely hit capacity, and even then it happened the week of the game, not months prior.

Can't say I blame you. I understand . It's too easy to go to Ticketmaster a day or two before the game and pick out the exact seats you want. Don't have to mess with scalpers and you can print them out right away. Even LSU seats will be easy to get, because of the experience I've had with Clemson and FSU in the past. Saying that, I'm keeping mine, but , sometimes I wonder...

Keep the faith, brother. Otherwise we'll have to send Crusty's cryogenic apparatus up your way. :noidea:

Yeah wait until you know what the weather will be. Nothing worst than sitting watching a game in a driving rain storm.

I've been buying tix from scalpers and moving to midfield in the upper deck after the half. But the last tix I got were in the lower deck, 35 yard line, about 20 rows up from the field. It was a great place to watch the game from - way better than sitting in the food stamp section. My advice: don't go all the way down to the cheap seats.

Do what you have to do cpat and if that is what works best for you that's cool.

I bought tickets from a scalper once in my life, about ten years ago, they were FAKES.

NO SOUP FOR ME. that's just my luck though.

Keep the faith brother!

Ignore the "real fan" stuff? It's stances like this why we will never be on the national level again. Our fans aren't committed to the program. It's a group effort.

Stick with the team, unless it is breaking your bank.

It's really too bad you feel that way. There;s more to college sports than winning aand losing. When we go to a game it's a 10 hour game.We tailgate before and tailgate after. We as a group have tailgated for 30 years. One year when we played on Thanksgiving day we rented a heater and everybody brought part of the dinner and we had Thankksgiving in the parking lot.I've met so many new friends over the years. That's what college sports are about. If you just go to the game and than go home you feel terrible when you lose.Stick around, have fun with new friends and even when you lose you wiill still
enjoy the games.Unless it's a financial hardship there's nno reason to give up.

THERE'S MORE TO COLLEGE SPORTS THAN WINNING AND LOSING!!!!!!!

I am young without children and have disposal income. I drop about 1k a year to the football team for 4 season tickets and donation to the SU since 2009. I don't blame you if you drop the season tickets if you will still go to the games. I feel like I am only keeping the season tickets because our fanbase for FB has shrunk and I want to help the program.

I am sick of the constant terrible offensive product put on the field. If I had any guts I would end my tickets but I think about the program. Don't let anyone tell you that your fandom is why you should keep toe seats. Do what is best for you.

I am a cheap-a$$. I admit it. I say it with pride. And I love scalper tickets.

I've taken my wife and kids to plenty of games on scalper tickets. Hell, I got (4) lower level tickets for Florida State for $30. Not $30 each, $30 TOTAL...for the #1 team and defending national champs!
(note: purchased 5 minutes after kickoff)

Tell me where I could find (4) tickets that cheap? Yep, love me some scalper tickets. I can go to any game I want for next to mothing.

Until the team starts to sell out the dome, I can't see myself purchaing season tickets again.

Do what makes you and your wallet happy. However -- to your argument that there is no bad seat in the Dome why not get a $99 or $125 season? You give up your seasons you give up your seniority. I'm not sure if you've ever utilized presales but those do not come with scalpers.

I hope the mind has not been set in stone because I think you'd regret the decision because of the hassle scalpers create.

Email me any time. You can bitch to me all you'd like. Tell me every little detail that you hate -- trust me I've heard it all and I can hopefully show you why others have felt like that but will still return in '15. I welcome it and I hope to hear from you!! -- drbartle@syr dot edu (no spaces)

Take the "Townie" Challenge

Step 1:
Add up the money you spend per game: parking, food, tickets, etc...

Step 2:
When next seasons schedule comes out. Set up an auto deposit to your kids 529 in the amount you got from Step 1 for each game.

Step 3:
Enjoy the game at home.

Best seats in the house and you feel like you win every game.

Do what's best for you. If you feel the money you save by getting rid of your season tickets is better used elsewhere, that's a conclusion only you can make for yourself. So many will talk about how big time college sports are a business, but when someone decides to not pay for or pay less for an unsatisfactory product, they are often ridiculed. They're told they should support the school or athletes as if it's a requirement. The last time I checked, neither the school nor the athletes are paying your bills. Do with your money as you see fit.

I disagree fundamentally that "real fan" staff will make us relevant nationally again and worse, I think it distracts from the major issues that are inhibiting long-term success in football. Businesses that blame their customers for a lack of success tend to fail. The most hard core fanbases don't always win (see Cleveland) and some of the lamest do win (see Miami). In fact, a valid argument can be made that we have too many hard core fans through the combination of basketball, football and lax success that contribute to a lack of inaction by the administration who think their current system of providing entertainment is working (or, in economic terms, we have a large customer base with inelastic demand who are willing to pay regardless of the product). As examples, take Syracuse's model of ticket pricing, renovation, food, and entertainment inside the dome, all of which you can argue hasn't fundamentally changed since 1980. In 1980, asking for a preferred donation made a lot of sense because the games were not on TV and there was something about going to the game. Now, there are many more options through tv but we use the same business model because the university is seeing parts of this business model seemingly "work over the short run" (why risk any of those "donations", particularly when our revenues are very high?- see post last week about our high revenues). IMO, one of the biggest challenges is that SU's administrators lack a sense of urgency because there is no financial incentive to act as long as the market appears to be "working," I don't want in any way to see the program fail, people not buy seats, etc., However, the lack of innovation coming from the athletic department on game day experiences and the salaries of our coaching staff are deeply concerning. The continued debate about "real" fans is misplaced; you can criticize the leaf raking/fair contingent all you want, but this is ignoring the true problem: why isn't the dome fun enough for them to attend in person? I think this is a solvable problem, but it is important to first identify the source of that problem rather than go down rabbit holes of thinking it is a "fan issue."

Doctor Bartlett, I think you are great and I really like how you engage. But I don't know that seniority is a big issue these days. I wish it were.
