Luckily...the religious southern peeps believe Jesus will save their kids from injuries. So there will always be football. We just need to make sure we can keep recruiting the south
Football is still the most popular sport in America. The TV ratings blow every other sport out of the water. While I understand that concern whole heartedly the numbers speak a different story
I know you are a thoughtful poster and great supporter. But, you are just flat wrong. Again, in the Northeast, football is entertainment, plain and simple, nothing more. SU football competes for the entertainment dollar. If the product on the field is lousy, as it certainly has been this year, the consumer spends his/her entertainment dollar elsewhere.Section 117 Row ZZ seat 10 since Joe Morris returned that kick-off vs. Miami of Ohio in 1980.
Giving up after four years?
We don't have the program we dream of because not enough people have invested in it, financially or emotionally, pure and simple. We, as a fan base, have the football program we deserve and the basketball program we deserve as well.
If we filled the Dome for every game, (and it's one of the smallest venues in the Power Five conferences), the University would have a lot more money to spend and Syracuse would be a much more attractive destination for top coaches and recruits. There may be what some think are good reasons why we don't but the truth of that statement is unassailable. And the argument that the schools needs to provide us with good teams to root for first is like saying we want the grass to grow before we'll water the lawn.

Recently we've been mediocre in our best years and usually field a lousy team which if you look further is run by a lousy coaching staff and even further a lousy AD which refuses to spend the football money necessary to compete at a high(er) level. How can we expect fans to turn out for that?Section 117 Row ZZ seat 10 since Joe Morris returned that kick-off vs. Miami of Ohio in 1980.

I live in GA now and their fanbase won't allow them to become mediocre. We'd all give anything to be Georgia football, meanwhile Mark Richt is on the hotseat every year.I think this is a good point. Totally different from when I lived in Georgia where it really is part of the culture.

this is completely accurate.
When I was a student, before the Bball resurgence under Danforth, nobody went to Bball games. So is what I said. If we field the Dome with screaming fans for every game, we'd have a much better program with more promient coaches and more talented players who win more games. That's what we've got in basketball and we could have it in football, too. Are there reasons we don't have that for football? Of course, there are reasons for everything. But empty stands don't attract top coaches or recruits and if we demand that success come first and then we'll get interest and loyalty, we are looking at things backwards. .
