when the police were told back in '05 they said that it was past the statute of limitations. ESPN looked at it and said they didn't have any proof. So they didn't run the story. The University investigated but couldn't get one of the "victims" witnesses to back up his story. And with that as the back drop, some want jB fired. The D.A. says he knows nothing about any of this.

I think most people are qualifying that if JB knew anything he should be fired. But otherwise I've walked myself off the ledge slightly because there doesn't seem to be a Penn State style cover up.

And the PS said they investigated it ... very hard to believe a newspaper would cover anything like this up.

What I don't understand. If the statue of limitations were expired 6-8 years ago then how would this investigation be opened up, now?

I think the police are lookking to see if they can find any child that was abused in the last few years.

Here's my prediction: if no new victims are found [and hopefully there won't be, so that there aren't any real victims], Fine will be dismissed and the program can go forward. And if any evidence turns up, then Boeheim will be fired immediately.

We'll get heat all freaking year everywhere we play, but hopefully the University's hands are clean.

but hopefully the University's hands are clean.

That's all I care about, other than the victims getting help. If Boeheim knew, the *** him. Like Paterno, that's his legacy. Get his name off the court tomorrow if he knew.

Agree 100%--good post.

And I'm feeling a little more confident that JB will be exonerated and that the University's conclusions from the 2005 investigation will hold up.

It seem weird that Syr Police opens case at the same time ESPN breaks their story. The same story which they couldn't support 8 years ago. There is nothing new and they are breaking the same story that they wouldnt air 8 years ago.

It sounds like this guy finally getting his story told right now why the mob is all fired up.

I really hope this is just a case of ESPN stirring the pot to make news ... i hope and pray.

ESPN told the story because OTL had another victim come forward.

It could also be a case of them reviewing their investigating just to be sure. I have no problem with that, especially in light of recent PSU news.

If JB knows nothing then the quicker a press conference the better.

JB had father of the year award last year. And Coach of the year the year before.

Where did you see this? I missed this part ...

Outside the Lines investigated Davis's story in 2003 but decided not to run the story because there were no other victims who would talk, and no independent evidence to corroborate his story. In recent days, a second man contacted Outside the Lines with information alleging that Fine had also molested him. That man said he was inspired to talk after seeing news coverage of the Sandusky case

It is best not to jump to any conclusions immediately after a story breaks.

One thing is certain, the Mark Schwarz interview about the case is extremely distrubing. If there is any truth to those allegations, it will eventually come out.

And I wouldn't take the Post Standard's refusal to run a story about this as proof of anything. This is not the kind of crime that is easy to investigate. Look how long things went on at Penn State before it made the news.

Beyond that it is tough to assume anything with any kind of certainty right now.

The thing that bothered me about the Mark Schwarz interview is how he said, "When we investigated, none of the other alleged victims were brave enough to come forward."

Or maybe there WERE no other victims, dipshit, did that occur to you as a possibility?

I thought the same thing--Schwartz went into a long winded soliloquy about the stigma associated with man-on-man sex abuse, implying that this is the reason why other victims never came forward. But he never addressed the possibility that the reason his investigation never scared up any corroborating evidence was that there WERE no other victims.

In the world of Media Studies, that's called a frame. The reporter is setting up the story to sound like there's a history of abuse. This is probably not intentional, but it just goes to show how powerful a simple choice of words can be.

Schwartz couldn't publish his story back in 2003 due to lack of corroborating evidence. The only reason ESPN was reporting it today was because of the police re-opening the investigation [which is factual], which enabled them to dredge the story up even without the necessary evidence to justify running it.

Again, not suggesting that it isn't true. If any shred of this is true, then there will be serious repercussions. But Schwartz sure didn't bring anything new to the table, for as demonstrative he was about describing the alleged abuse.

I was referring to Schwarz's words "When we investigated, none of the other alleged victims were brave enough to come forward." The key word here is "brave enough." He's setting the story up, whether intentionally or not, to be a story where the regular viewing public will now be EXPECTING more victims to come forward.

I agree -- read my post that is 3 or 4 messages up.
