Just how many spots will we even have open? All the Jrs become Jrs again so how many of those kids stay around as 5th-6th Yr Srs. All the schools are gonna have some interesting numbers the next 2-3 yrs as it shakes out.

Assuming all the Jrs came back and wanted to come back again after next yr what are we left with? 5 spots?

Probably have to have some hard conversations with kids who have been here 4+ years, haven’t really seen the field and have been recruited over.

Then you redo the math. Might only get you 3-5 more slots but every one will be important.

I mean, like you said, it's really hard to gauge.

That said, if all of the guys who we can say with confidence will be back next year in their Non RS fourth year (Harris) or RS fifth year (Richards, Szmyt, Devito, D. Davis, S. Johnson, Coley, Harper, RTB, Morton, Tisdale) all decide to leave, we would have 16 spots open, according to my math.

58 underclassmen currently returning for 2021 + 23 newbies = 81 potential scholarship players as of 2/4. (I'm still counting Moss as a commit, I'm not counting Howard just yet).

Maybe 11 Seniors will drop off the roster after 2021. Maybe they all come back for year 6?

81 - 11 = 70 returning underclass for 2022.

15 slots ???

I didn't count Moss and also didn't count Adams or Howard. Otherwise, it looks like our numbers match.

so if they max out the 2022 with 15 and say no one is forced out are you then pushing an even smaller class to 2023?

I assume we’re not stopping at 81, probably pounding away on the portal as I type. But then again some of those could be grad transfers.

I would think the 2022 class numbers would be a problem across the country.

Sort of related, how many will we have for spring practice? Discounting anyone out with injury.

Adams would be in his 6th year anyways in 2021. He wouldn't be back in 2022.

Not accounting for injuries, approx 70 should be available for Spring Ball.

So there are 12 or 13 Jrs (RS or Not) on the 2021 roster. That said, it's pretty standard to lose 5 scholly guys not to graduation a year.

Also not counting walk ons, but that's super hard to keep track of without updated rosters.

WAG, 66 existing players plus 6-7 Spring enrollees.

I still think there will be more attrition between now and the beginning of Spring Ball.

Well I one hand we may end up in 2 yrs with a much deeper class of kids who have been here long enough to reach their peak but probably not good enough to go pro. We always wanted to develop kids and general the 4-5th yr kids are productive. we may not have to play most of next yrs FR class, RS them and get that depth in 2-3 yrs..

I agree. For example, we have 17 scholly OLinemen right now, plus two walk ons from last season and Rhino. Seems ripe for another departure or two.

IDK enough about all the numbers, but I feel like the NCAA needs to lift the 85 scholly max for the next few years. Keep the 25 new scholarship max in place, but until the effects of Covid changes trickle through we shouldn't penalize the players or highschool kids.

Please no. Can you imagine what the "haves" would do with 15 extra scholies each? Who would the "have nots" have left to fight over?

Probably someone like me. 5'11", 150 lbs, but above average speed...for a guy in his late 30's.

So yea, let's not go that route!
A long and lean mean machine!

The 1AA and D2 ranks are going to be loaded the next couple of years.
The bottom of FBS will have more talent than it ever has too with all of the P5 transfers. College football is going to be as good as it’s been in a long time the next couple of years.
