Calipari constantly reminding us that "these are freshmen".

Stop it. That's what you are UK. You are and under Caliparis formula will always be a "one n done" team of freshmen,

Apparently every year Kentucky is the only team that will get better as the season goes on since they're all freshmen. Wasn't that supposed to happen last year too?

It actually was happening until Noel went down. Like it or not, they are freshman and they will get better. They have crazy talent and if they win it all I wouldn't be shocked. They're better than us this year.

we haven't played each other, right? Let's see.

You act like I'm sounding like a crazy person, what I said isn't that controversial.

No. But I wasn't as impressed with them as you were. They look like they have some issues . All I am saying (besides give peace a chance) is let's wait awhile and see who both of us are. You would have said that last year and lo and behold, we were in the final four .

They weren't making it passed the round of 32 with Noel at best. They would have been a very low seed so saying round of 32 is a stretch.

They played a great Mich St team"who I honestly think should have been number 1 anyways" and stuck around until the end. We've played 4 halves against awful teams and lost 2 of them. I think we'll get better throughout the season but this team isn't as talented on the defensive end as last year.

I actually really liked last years team, loved MCW and Southerland, I thought Kentucky was a solid team last year but they weren't anything like the Davis team nor this years teams.

Too early to tell. Roberson has still not adjusted to the college game. When he does we will be a very difficult out.

Barring some insanely consistent improvement from Rak or Coleman, I think A LOT of our team potential is hinging on how well Roberson adjusts to D1 competition. I have to assume right now that, despite the noticeable improvement in Rak's and Coleman's games so far, once we get into the meatier parts of the schedule, they will be sitting a lot more. That leaves Fair, Grant, and Keita to man the front line. Christmas will most likely spell Keita, but who spells Fair and Grant? Gbinije may get some minutes at the 3, but I think, for the most part, the backup forward may wind up being Roberson's role. It seems like JB has been throwing him into the games pretty early on (though in the Cornell game it was also because Grant was out), and I believe it was Hopkins who said that Roberson had been one of the most impressive players in practice. To me, this seems like the most likely road we'll end up taking going into conference play.

Calipari is pretty funny with some of these comments, especially about having to play MSU so early in the season. I love how Izzo cut right through the BS on that one.

They were losing to crappy teams like Alabama and Texas A&M before he got injured. They were on the good side of the bubble but not by much, and it's not as if he was hurt in December. His injury was in the middle of February, so I don't know that they make that much of a jump. Like someone already said, they probably don't get past the second round (the real second round).

This Kentucky team looks much better. It's not just having a better group of freshman either, the sophomores that returned give them a lot more depth than last year. That being said, they shouldn't have been preseason #1. No team that lost in the first round of the NIT the previous year should be preseason #1. The rankings should not be projections of where a team may be in march, they should be a reflection of how good a team is now, and they haven't proven anything yet. Let them start out of the top 25 and earn it like most everyone else.

Really, no one has proven anything yet. (Before the season starts, I mean).

Pomeroy has done studies that say the preseason top 25 is actually a pretty good predictor of what will happen in the season, better than early in-season polls, at least. I would say if polls in college basketball meant anything (like they do in college hoops) they just shouldn't have a poll for the first 6-8 weeks of the season and let teams play some games first, but since they're meaningless, I can't get too worked up about it.

Someone also needs to remind ole Cal, you get what you pay for, so shut the hell up and deal with it...scumbag.

It's true no one has proven anything yet, but there are teams that did a lot more last year with players that returned this year. That should be weighed more heavily in a preseason poll than it is for KU. As accurate as Pomerov may be, KU was a preseason #3 last year and were knocked out of the AP top 25 after week 4 and the coaches top 25 by week 8. That was before Noel went down too. A new crop of freshman shouldn't be enough to vault them to preseason #1 following the season they had last year.

Yeah that was more of a general comment, re: Pomeroy. I was actually pretty surprised when I read that.

I just really can't get worked up about the polls. At all.

We have a lot of room for growth as well...

How good is Ennis? (Freshman)
How well will Cooney adjust to being the man at the 2 guard? (Sophomore in a new role)
How will CJ adjust to being the man and preseason ACC POY?
Will Grant develop into a lottery pick? (Sophomore)
What type of production do we get from our 3 headed monster at Center?
How will Gbinije develop as the primary back up guard after sitting out a year? (Sophomore)
How will Roberson, a player who has gotten some serious acclaim lately, develop as possibly the primary back up forward? (Freshman)

Sounds like a lot of the same types of questions UK has. Why are they the only team granted monumental upside?

Aside from Randle and Young they were not that impressive. Their season pretty much hinges on the Harrison twins being the real deal at the guard spots. Also worth noting is that Randle didn't go off until Michigan State's thin frontcourt got into foul trouble. If there's anything that we can handle in a matchup against Kentucky, it's frontcourt foul trouble. Mich State has one big who can handle UK's frontcourt and that was Payne, Dawson is solid but a bit undersized. Once Payne got into foul trouble Randle went bezerk. We have Grant, Coleman, Rak, Keita, and we'll see how Roberson develops.

I don't know if they are the ONLY team granted that but they have like 7 projected first rounders on their roster and are probably the most extreme example of it. Let's not pretend they don't have an absurd amount of talent that has very little to no experience at this level and has a lot of room to grow. Whether it all jells is totally open to interpretation. But they had a bunch of freshmen playing their first game against great competition. If the tables were turned and that was our roster and they had ours, I think we would all be singing a different tune.

As for a matchup with UK, we're so far away from that it's not something even on my radar right now. And when we do play them, I think both teams will look a lot different than they do right now.
