Bama absolutely dominating tonight. But they lost at home to the same team.

Do you put Okie State above either of these teams? Yeah, I know they lost to Iowa State ... after a plane crash killed two women's hoop coaches.

Seriously, what a mess.

Seriously, what a mess.

The BCS decided these are the two best teams in the country. You have the vote the winner of the game as the #1 team in the country. Nothing else that has happened prior to tonight even matters.

Okie State has no shot at it IMO. But based on the current system, I suppose it has to be Bama. In a perfect world they'd play one more time to truly decide it, but it's the national championship game. They outclassed LSU tonight with that defensive performance. Have to say they deserve it.

Nothing would please me more to add more controversy to this archaic system

I know the rules. I'm asking what you would do.

1) I would vote for college football to have a playoff system. It seems like every year there is more and more reason for it.

2) If I couldn't do that, I would vote Alabama #1. They deserve it based on their performance tonight.

LSU 13-1
Alabama 12-1

Alabama doesn't even win their division and they will be outright National Champions. If the game was close there would have been a BCS/AP split between Alabama and LSU. This is an absolute joke. If this happened as a result of a +1 scenario, then so be it.

I vote #3. End the college football season and move on to college hoops as quickly as possible. Right after the Giants win the Super Bowl of course.

LSU's offense made us look like the Saints. Gotta vote Bama #1 as idiotic and lame as it is.

The system needs one more tweak. Instead of playing the National championship game between the #1 & 2 ranked teams, they need to make the top 2 BCS Bowls as the semifinals between the top 4 teams, & then those winners would play this Championship game. This would have given OK. State the chance to be in this game right now.

To please the BCS Bowls, you would rotate which ones would be the top 2 bowls.

Then you have some saying that would eliminate 2 teams from the BCS Bowls. No, you simply add another Bowl as a BCS Bowl, like the Cotton...

It's ironic that the way LSU's offense performed, Okie St would have probably beaten them and the SEC Championship streak would have been broken.

Alabama will be #1 in both polls. End of story.

Anybody that doesn't think this Alabama team is the best in the country should stop watching college football. It's possible the two best teams play in the same division in the same conference. Why should they be penalized for that?

It blows my mind that the #1 team in the country couldn't score 1 freakin point in the "national championship" game. That is unreal.

watching those two slog through another awful game is far from a perfect world.

and I think Okie State has no shot b/c they didn't dominate in their game against Stanford. Let's face it, if the Stanford kicker didn't choke on a relatively easy field goal they win that game in regulation.

For this season I think Alabama should be named national champion - as crappy as that is given that they didn't even make their conference championship game - and let it go. This system sucks, but there's no doubt in my mind that Alabama is the best team in the country at the end of the season.

They should not be penalized for playing in the same division/conference as LSU.

They should be penalized for losing to LSU in November.

Remember, this is college football, where "the regular season is important and every game matters."
:)

[As a total aside--could any league other than the SEC get away with having a national champion
that has 2 losses and one that did not even win its own division?]

I don't think the voters HAVE to do anything. I think they could vote OKSt #1 in they wanted to. They won't though -- nor should they. Still there is no way to know if these are the two best teams. Alabama was the best team on the field last night.

And Oklahoma St or whoever else you wanted in the game shouldn't have been penalized for losing to Iowa St? Alabama was heads and shoulders the best team in the country this year. Kudos to the BCS for getting it right.

We aren't talking about Okie St.

It's very easy to say today that Alabama is clearly the best. It wasn't so easy 24 hours ago, and it certainly wasn't 6 weeks ago, when the regular season was coming to an end.

I'm not dissing the Tide; just the system that produced last night's snoozer.

Well, it really doesn't surprise me due to the excessive/ridiculous amount of time exhausted from when they last played. LSU's execution on all levels last night was just horrible. You can not have that much time expire and realistically expect both teams to play at their best or even close to it for that matter. That in and of itself is a joke, let alone the pseudo national championship game.

Alabama is the best team in the SEC today. Two months ago they were the 2nd best team in the SEC. We have no idea how good they are in the nation because the only team they played not in the SEC was Penn State, hardly a team you could prove anything against this season. BCS stinks. I think I preferred it when we just went by the polls. At least then there was no pretense to a national championship game having been played.

To vote Okie St #1, one would have to believe the following:
  • that Alabama's loss to LSU earlier this year was a worse loss than OK St's loss to Iowa St.
  • that OK St's bowl win against Stanford was more impressive than Alabama's win last night.
I don't think there's any question about either of these, but I still wish there would be a national playoff.

It's possible, but we don't really know that do we? Bama basically only played real games within their conference. Kent State, GA Southern, and N. Texas or whatever, and a demoralized Penn State doesn't really tell you anything about what they could do against other major BCS teams. I have to think an Oregon for example might be able to score more than zero points against Bama, even with the Tide's defense.
