I'm sure there would be some upset people, but I also think you can improve your defense quicker than you can improve your offense. I remember that last game against UConn 2009, we lost 56-31 I think? But we had 500 yards, it was the 2nd game of our assumption that Spence had been removed from calling the game and Marrone was doing it. So while there was certainly special teams concerns, some defense concerns stopping the run, I didn't think it was a meltdown on the board (outside of people being upset with Edsall). I remember people being excited about where our offense was going to go under Marrone.
This is 100% correct. In fact I vividly remember being surprised at how generally upbeat people were after that loss. It was because our O moved up and down the field with ease, and we had hope deep into the 4th quarter, along with optimism that good O was on it's way back to SU.
But we shouldn't let reality get in the way of a hypothetical.
