I've felt for a long time that to maximize your program drawing fans you need a coach is who is going to produce a Mike Leach type offense. Riley is the most brilliant Leach protege. He's only 32 and in his 1st year as OC at a P5 school.

And now an SEC seems to want him as HC.

Syracuse should have been all over Riley. Maybe he wants no part of that weather, but maybe he would see Syracuse as a good place to be a 1st time HC. It is far away from the brightest lights of the SEC and much of the ACC. Your rookie mistakes won't get as much public damning. You cut your teeth is relative obscurity.

Riley will probably stay at OU a few more years and have his pick at a top tier school. This dude is a super hot commodity now and I think the Sooners will win the national title this year.

Going from OK/TX to central NY is a tough cultural move for lifelong coaches from that area. That's why I prefer Babers over Montgomery.

Let's go for this Lincoln then...

I assume we'll get a lot of that. Thus the need to OVERPAY. Unfortunately, 1.2-1.8M is not overpaying in the ACC.

That 1.2 is wrong. 1.8-2 is much better.

its still not enough to attract the top candidates.

Iowa St just paid Campbell 2. Plus that's base salary without incentives, IMG, camp $, etc.

Spending more than that on a coordinator is a tough sell unless you think he's the next Meyer or Saban.

2 is enough to get Babers, or its close enough you could add enough incentives to get there.

Wait, South Carolina still doesn't have a new coach? Why are all the candidates blackballing them???? Their AD must be flailing around desperately!!!!

I think we will pay much more than that for the right guy... $2.5-2.7 mil IMO.

Hope you're right. Maryland and Mizzou could be tough to beat out otherwise.

If we don't, we will be beat out. It's simple. Coyle is the only one who knows what his cushion is and hopefully is planning accordingly.

I hope you are right because that is what it will take. Frost got $2 million for 5 years with 2 year buyout at $850,000. He took $300,000 and moved it to the staff budget. So, he took $1.7 and a staff budget of 4 million.

where did you find this? do you mind sharing?

also, does anyone know what our staff budget was last year with shaf, exclusive of his reported $1.4m salary?
