This week SU is ranked 27th in total offense and 46th in total defense. Going back to 1989 there have only been 5 seasons where the team was ranked 50th or better in both offense and defense and those teams all won 8 or more games.

If (and I realize that's a big if) SU can sustain that level of performance, the wins will come.

Here is some context going back to 2001.

Year TO TD Com W
2001 93 46 139 10
2002 54 113 167 4
2003 70 47 117 6
2004 78 101 179 6
2005 115 57 172 1
2006 110 107 217 4
2007 114 111 225 2
2008 115 102 217 3
2009 94 37 131 4
2010 97 7 104 8
2011 90 64 154 5
2012 27 46 73 ?

The whiners are not going to be happy with that.

Oh just friggin' stop.

Yeah, people will be *really* pissed if we win 8 games.

Let's just hope we don't suck ass in conference like we have 2 of the past 3 years.

Yeah I cant wait to listen to all my Cuse hating friends rag on me about how bad SU is and I absolutely love hearing otehr fan bases call our program a joke.

I have to agree, it's only a matter of time. cut back penalities, turnovers, wins will come in bunches

Don't know about the rest of you, but the original post was like a cool breeze on a hot day.

Stats are nice when you are winning, mean nothing when you haven't won in a year. It shows the potential we could have for winning, but unless the penalties and turnovers (indication of a lack of discipline) are cleaned up and make better in game decisions, we won't win many games.

We need more from our front 4, they have to get more penetration and until they do this defense will always have a chance of a guy breaking a tackle and taking off for 6 or huge gains. If teams can block them one on one they can pay more attention to anyone that is blitzing and maybe the reason these blitzes are picked up easily.

We are now on relatively equal footing with pretty much our entire schedule. There are no more hopeless feelings going into games like there were in the Grob era. So, thats progress. As you said, IF we can clean up mistakes, we're going to win our fair share of games. We all have eyes -- this is an improved team and I expect to win a bunch of games in conference.

If we don't, we know who the finger gets pointed at. He's done a nice job getting the cupboards re-stocked with decent talent (relative to our conference mates, of course) and now he and his teams need to produce. Time to win, Dougie.

The problem with discipline is that we still don't have full recourse to enforce it yet. It seems like we have a lot of promising young talent, but there is still a big drop-off from the top guy at a lot of positions. So when someone screws up, what can you do? You say, "Don't do it again," but you can't yank him, because the result would be even worse than tolerating another mistake. That's my gut feeling, anyway.

This is proof that Millhouse has an optimistic alter ego. I bet if we check all the time stamps, we'd find that you two have never posted at the same time... Crazy!
