You don't lose by 30 points to a terrible St. John's team unless there are other issues going on. Coaches, players, managers. They all deserve some of this blame. Absolutely abysmal performance and one of the worst I have ever seen from a Syracuse basketball team.

St. John's is a team that lost to LIU Brooklyn and Delaware State. Delaware State is 3-10 and lost to Binghamton by almost 20. LIU Brooklyn just lost to winless Dartmouth. And Syracuse can't stay within 30 points!

Something is up. Either the players have tuned Boeheim out or there are injuries or the archaic offense is not up to snuff, because the players on the team are talented enough to at least stay within 20 of St. John's. At least.

I really hope the team hasn't turned on the coach but I honestly wouldn't be surprised. After Roberson being banished to the bench, I can see where he would be upset, but maybe even his teammates are upset that the senior who did so well last season isn't even on the front lines with them.

I'm just saying as a stop gap. Bringing a guy from Colorado State and another from Nebraska to start over guys that chose Syracuse out of high school. That has to be a gut punch to the "Syracuse guys."

Maybe but they just aren't that good, limited, and are having a really tough time picking up the defense. Louisville was playing great with their two mercenaries before they banned themselves last year. These guys seem genuinely like good dudes and care for each other. Howard seems like he could be a malcontent though. TT is the only guy it seems who is doing any talking/communicating out there.

Again, don't see them as real team guys either, but neither does Howard or Battle. We have a lot of problems, this is a big one, but there are other big ones as well, it will take a miracle to pull something positive for this year.

Yep. And to add salt to this open wound, does anyone think we'd be worse than 7-5 (and have a 33-point loss to St. John's) with Kaleb Joseph in the rotation instead of Gillon?

The fifth-year gamble looks like a big miscalculation right now.

I think there's a lot of truth here. I hate to bash the players, but there's really not a standout player other than maybe Lydon -- and even he is limited in many ways.

definitely not worse but I don't think that was the plan/gamble while Kaleb was still here though - he was not cutting it at all and he saw the writing on the wall and left and then Richardson to the draft and then the scramble for 5th yr players

well Roberson used to be good, and battle should be good. I think lydon and howard have been thrust into roles earlier than they were meant to based on how they were recruited, that is why I tend to give them a pass. with coleman, you cant predict injuries so I wouldn't call him a whiff. TT is not a whiff, but he a freshman. to me the whiff is running off kaleb and Johnson and then bringing in gillon and white. for crissakes boeheim tried to compare gillon to jonny Flynn.if that isn't out of touch than I don't know what is.

What if the gut punch guys were legit blue chippers or one and done's? And, that these "Syracuse guys" were recruited over? Syracuse is supposedly an elite program, so the only thing that truly matters is getting the best guys SU can to help them win and maintain the alleged elite status.

But should both be starting?

Gillon is way too short at the top of the zone, is horrible on rotations and really can't shoot. Sure he can penetrate (and get blocked). In transition, he's apt to go 1-4 and get blocked. Maybe he's coached to do that. Either way, that has to stop. IMHO, Battle should start over him.

White can sometimes shoot but is a sieve on defense and doesn't rebound. I get the need to have a shooter, but he disappears at key times on offense. In the meantime the opponent scores at will against his side of the zone. We're far better off with Roberson, who's our best rebounder and a FOUR YEAR SU PLAYER...Can you imagine how he must feel? And I'll bet you 10 bucks, after seeing White play, other kids on the team feel the same damn way.

IMO talent alone should have vaulted the team past SJU -- or made it even close -- IF there really was as much talent as people think on the team.
