Ok so you get Costanza and Kiyan to play with Sadiq and this kid and if Petar is ready could play the 5… then you add some portal help and wow. Plus Womack as a developmental kid.

This kid looks like he could play the point
not trying to be wet blanket but i dont really wanna see a starting lineup of 4 freshman and a soph

its great to get talent and im all for that...but wary of such a young starting lineup...it hasnt worked much for kentucky and those types of schools

i would hope that the freshman would come in knowing they arent guaranteed to start and that there would lkely be upperclassman portal players brought in with them as well for comp

UVA transfers aren’t even eligible to play until 2nd semester, makes no sense to transfer to only play a semester unless you’re kicked out or you hate the interm coach
I don’t think you can play in season, unless you are a grad student

That’s a lot of assumptions here. It makes a great class paired with any returnees and then portal additions. This kid may well be as ready as an upperclassman given his experience coming in.

I’ll trust Red here…

your post implied that was the starting lineup...whch may or may not be a good thing idk...it would be risky for sure to go that young though

as long as the young players are cool with earning whatever minutes they get im down

but this is the NIL era...where if 5 stars dont start they likely leave...

i trust reds has had those convos like you ...but at the same time my first assupmtion is if 5 stars are coming they expect to start

grabbing a bunch of 5 star frehsman is still great but its not as great as it used to be before jay wright, tony bennett coach k, roy williams JB etc left the game bc of the recent changes and "player empowerment"

It implied we have a core 5 of young talent that could play together anything else would be speculating a bit too much

Red remembers the JB token starter.

If he has to promise a starting role to a highly recruited freshman to get him to come to Syracuse, so be it. But Red isn't going to keep a promising freshman out there if another player is going to better help the team win.

Like this season, where there are a ton of talented guys on the roster, the players are going to determine minutes.

And to some extent, who the opposition has on the floor.

That would be my guess. Hopefully a big.

Well, I posted that in response to a post that I thought was new, but was 3 weeks old. My bad. We still could use a big for next year's team. Do you disagree?

Portal big would be ideal.

I would think we need a center plus a point guard. Fennel is a point guard I gather but he’ll be a freshman, would think we need another pure point preferably with some good experience next year unless I forgot someone.

He's a professional

He's a professional
And if he suffers an injury? (sure hope not) Regardless, I would think we need a backup point guard at the least. Are you assuming that JJ should be our backup PG since Jaquan Carlos is a senior or are you thinking that Chance Westry will need to fill that role?

Just looked up the NBA Global Academy’s Center of Excellence in Australia and they aren’t professional players. It’s an excellent program, definitely not professional but a stepping stone for those who hope to eventually be professionals. They still need development and more USA competition like the USA collegiate recruits. Luke is a great pickup for us but to expect him as a freshman to be our only point guard is scary. We did the same with the more experienced Carlos this year and I hope we have learned that it’s a crucial position that needs depth. The year before we needed Copeland playing out of position as a backup point to Judah that worked out ok but we should always have a point guard option on the roster, at least in my opinion - it’s too important of a role.
