Someone explain this "life skills" thing to me

17-20.

In two years I'd like to see him at least be a 34-29 coach.

Also would like to see us score some ******* points.
Good answer.

In two years i would like to see a 6-6 and 7-4 or better regular season with two bowl games. I would like to see Doug turn the O over to a true OC. I would like to see a special teams coach hired and Special teams become a unit of pride again. I would like for there to be team unity and I would like to see Doug having some fun and truly enjoying his dream job and for him to have been provided with an additional five year extension

Do you (or anybody) really see DM turning the O over to a true OC? I don't, I realize your listing things you would like to see and I think it's probably a good idea. I'm just wondering if anyone sees that happening - of all the things that DM could potentially do/change about the program and himself I see that as the least likely to happen.

It depends. If Marrone feels comfortable that he can concentrate on just the O, then he will be heavily involved. Based on what happened this year, the smart thing for him to do would be going back to the CEO approach in year 1. The D has issues. STs has issues. And apparently there are off the field issues with the team. You would think he would want to address everything and not just the O. I am 110% sure coaches do not think this way, but it would also likely buy him a 5th year if he were to hire an outside OC. If the team doesn't make a Bowl you can use the new system as an excuse. Again coaches a VERY confident in themselves and would never ever think this way, but IMO it would be in his best interests.

See, I think "wanting" anything more beyond the record is silly. Marrone is running the program, he has every right to hire who he wants and run any system he wants. As for "unity" and "fun", winning takes care of that.

I've watched too many teams across too many sports lose to whine about them not winning the way I prefer.

I agree.

I think we have to get back to 8+ wins over the next two years. If he can get to 9+, I don't care how he accomplishes it (within the rules of course). He can hire an OC that wears a bunny costume or an Otto outfit for all I care. Winning solves everything else.

I hope so, although that's a pretty optimistic benchmark considering next year's schedule and the likelihood that we'll be playing in the ACC the following year...

Everytime people referenced Marrone and "life skills" I thought it was just a comment on his style, not on an actual formal program that orangetradition refered to in another thread.

Do other schools have a program like this?

Is this part of why people have been saying Marrone has to ease off the throttle on these guys?
half day sessions include chewing gum with your mouth open and getting a degree in less than 10 years

If after 5 years he hasn't gotten to 8 wins, he was the wrong hire

What little I remember from high school science includes something called "vectors", which were arrows denoting both direction and velocity. You could use them to analyze motion. The most effiicient motion was the one that aligned the vectors so that at the key point, they were all pointing in the same direction.

I think Doug felt that with all the stuff he was doing with the "leadership" and "life skills" programs and all the "team building exercises" he put the team through, by the third year, all the vectors would be pointing in the same direction. But they weren't and I think that, as much as the losses, really shook him up.
