something important to keep in mind

This isn't about us. No one here is going to jail. No one here is going to be accused of anything. As much as we get ourseleves worked up, this isn't about us. We all love syracuse basketball. But Syracuse basketball will survive. Will we take some hits. Yes. Will the next few weeks be rough. Double yes. But it won't last. It really won't. Nothing does. A president was murdered in my lifetime and the world kept on spinning. After a while, everything returned to normal. I believe that Syracuse did everything they could have. The ACC won't back out because of this. Jb probably won't retire or be fired because of this. We will win a lot of games this year, even with this. There will be a cloud. But it will also pass. No one in your family has died because of this. The people who love you, still love you. Hang tough and we will get through this.

Dash, I wish I could agree with you. I think for most of us, it is about us. That is life. We ultimately base our life experiences from how it impacts us, not a coach, community, etc. A big part of what defines me is SU hoops, esp. now as it's an amazing event that my kids and I have a great bond with. Normally, we'd be talking about how UNC lost and we'll probably be up to 3, but now I'm just disappointed this stuff is happening. Watching Vta and stanford games, and having to turn the tv when the fine stuf comes up, etc, and getting asked what I'm doing, what's that about, etc. After PSU, I had the talk with the oldest and couldn't now imagine saying "one of the SU coaches could be the guy we talked about".

If BF is convicted of sex acts with children, we will not be the program we are today, we'd be lucky to be Rutgers. We are at or near the top of our game (#3 as of tomorrow, looking at preseason top 5 again next year, with no end in sight). All it takes is a few recruits we normally get to look elsewhere, and we're toast, quickly becoming an average program, not one expected to be top 20 every single year. If there are no sex acts with children, I agree, the cloud with pass. However, at this point, we can only hope BF was a gay sex weirdo, not a pedophile. If the former is what we're hoping for, then that's not a good thing...

Completely agree with Dash's post.

Cosign Dash.

Also, assuming no coverup, there is nothing to be ashamed about as Syracuse per se even if everything accused is true. Bad people do bad things in this world. Some of them have power, and some of them are really good at hiding what they did. This is a deeply sad story if it's true, but not a story about Syracuse per se.

Unless a coverup, and then I'm with Millhouse.

Good post, Recruiting will suffer big time. No matter what a recruit says to the media about this having no impact on his decision, he has (it his mind) crossed us off.

it won't suffer big time. the timing is actually good for us. And I don't say this in any way to diminish what any victims have been through. As a basketball perspective, we have this years recruits. Next year, could be rough. But a year from now, this story will diminish. And kids will still visit. And once they do, they see the melo center and the dome. Will it cost us a recruit or two. Probably. We will be okay.

Agree that there's nothing to be ashamed of if nobody covered up, if JB didn't know, etc.

But SU basketball success does impact our lives deeply. So, we are inextribably linked to what transpires. Right or wrong, many of us have real emotional feelings based on success or failure of SU. So, while Dash is right, we are not going to jail, we are not in trouble, and those like David Fine should be the one we feel for etc, it becomes about us because it impacts us, our families, community, etc. I am clearly not one who lives vicariously though college sports, as seen on my lack of frequent posting on this side, but there is a tangible connection to what happens here and it becomes about us, too. There is reason why the hundreds of thousdands cry 30 years later at the mention of John Lennon, or soemthing like that. It's not because he made great music, it's because they listened to that music with their husband that died, their old college roommates, etc.

Ok so there is blood in the water right now and everybody is high as a kite in panic mode.

Dash is right on -

First Bernie needs to be let go for conduct detrimental to the university. The situation and the tape shows their is clear motive for Laurie fine to be attempting to go after Bernie through the Davis, lang etc etc. this is Bernie's issue to deal with now. It's still very grey as to whether any abuse did occur, the only clear issue is a large family problem in the fine household. We need to sever ties with Bernie, make sure all the Air is clear from earlier investigations, have JB apologize and hand this off to the authorities and the pr firm.

To me it's despicable Bernie didn't remove himself from the program when he issues in the household prior to this coming out. He is a liability to SU and if allegations are true a despicable human being.

bernie should annouce, given the circumstance he is retiring. He intends to defend himself fully against these false charges. To still be on the staff would be a distraction. But after everything we have seen, I doubt he does the right thing.
