If he has any of his speed he can be a real difference maker on defense. We have a good DL coach to teach him.1000% I remember us talking about it
He looked to be one of the biggest on the entire sideline.
He certainly can fill the role of the full size DT we wanted
The commitment thread is a funny read in hindsight. The next 44, Jim Brown, etc. Even a promise from Dino!
Mike Bires: A coach’s promise leads Josh Hough to Syracuse
When Josh Hough gets to college, he hopes to be just like the great Jim Brown. That and other news, notes and anecdotes from the high school sports scene.www.timesonline.com
In essence, Hough turned down Pitt and Kentucky -- the other Power 5 programs which offered him a scholarship -- because they projected him more as a linebacker.
On Feb. 1 while Hough was making an unofficial weekend visit to Syracuse, coach Dino Babers re-affirmed his promise that Hough would remain a running back throughout his career with the Orange.
"They want me as a running back," Hough said. "I feel really good about that. That's the position I want to play."
Elmore is listed at 293 lbs on the roster so I don't think he weight more than that. If he plays DL at all in 2022 it would likely be in goal line situations if that. My guess its more of an emergency thing if we get a bunch of injuries. I expect him to play mostly his traditional roll on the offense as a blocking back. He mentioned in an interview during the spring game that he is Tucker's primary blocking back. Was hoping Josh was going to become our version of AJ Dillon and be the 2nd back this year behind Tucker. If healthy last year he could have helped spell Tucker when Jarveon quit and Adams got hurt. Tucker would play nearly every series and take every carry for long stretches.
It sounds like the listed 255 might be generous so maybe he can become similar to Elmore who I also read appears to be heavier than his listed weight and might play Dline as well. But my concern is Dline depth and size. Were having to move former RBs and FBs to that position because were not adequately recruiting it. There's going to be a learning curve for technique to be able to make an impact at that position. Hope it works.
What? he was recruited as a RB as stated by Hough. And yes of course he is a 3rd stringer he was RB who was injured all last season and is just now getting healthy. Likely transferred to DL because while we said he'd remain a RB that was pre injury and assumed that he was at his old weight. He is now heavier than that and can't realistically be a RB at his current weight. So he transferred to the DL which he has barely played if at all in high school. He played some defense in HS but that may have been more LB if I remember correctly. How could he be anything other than 3rd string currently? Doesn't mean he doesn't have any potential there.Kid couldve been recruited for D-Line all along having never played a snap. Seeing as he's a 3rd stringer not sure it really matters.
Right, but you'd speculate that he never had a chance at RB either - he was really recruited to be a LB at Pitt and Kentucky the only other d-1 offers he had. Probably deserves to be there. What? he was recruited as a RB as stated by Hough. And yes of course he is a 3rd stringer he was RB who was injured all last season and is just now getting healthy. Standing next to both im 6'2 220 and Hough looked as big if not bigger than Elmore. Hough had to be a minimum of 50 pounds heavier than me. He is a very large person.Elmore is listed at 293 lbs on the roster so I don't think he weight more than that. If he plays DL at all in 2022 it would likely be in goal line situations if that. I'm sure the staff is still planning to add a DL...or two.
Just curious if it looks like "good" weight? An example of "bad" weight would be that former 4-star OT Qadir White.Standing next to both im 6'2 220 and Hough looked as big if not bigger than Elmore. Hough had to be a minimum of 50 pounds heavier than me. He is a very large person.
Man, hope he succeeds. I must have stuffed the ballot over a hundred times on my phone for the kid.He looked solid. Plus what a nice kid.
I was saying that Elmore was probably not more than his listed roster weight as that is what the OP stated. But good info on Hough's current size. Hopefully once healthy he can get into better shape.Standing next to both im 6'2 220 and Hough looked as big if not bigger than Elmore. Hough had to be a minimum of 50 pounds heavier than me. Get out of here... It sounds like you are implying the coaches lied to him. If he never had a chance at RB I would say it was not because of anything the coaches did. The reason is injury and weight related. How can you blame the coaches for putting him on the DL right now at his current weight?Right, but you'd speculate that he never had a chance at RB either - he was really recruited to be a LB at Pitt and Kentucky the only other d-1 offers he had. You're right bud. The former Josh Hough was a RB, the current is a DL. Just weight and injury alone landed him there.Get out of here... It sounds like you are implying the coaches lied to him. Think he has a much better chance on finding a home in the NFL on defense at his size. He should be a terror off the edge ala Aaron Donald, Freeney.
He gone. (sorry, couldn't resist, I've never been 1st to say that before! )If he can maintain his guickness and agility he could be a 3 or 4 year nightmare, for ACC offenses.
well with the #29, he could still tote the rock.Really would have liked to see Hough play running back, at least a little bit.
“Has a chance“ it’s aspirational, not comparing him. Body type is more like a classic D-End size. Not too many guys his size can run like he did in HS, hence a chance to be special. The kid hasn't played a down in college and we're comparing him to the best defensive player in the NFL and 1 of the best edge rushers of all-time. I think we may want to pump the brakes just a tad. I certainly hope you're right, but this comparison seems a bit outlandish.
What are the chances Bassette or Nolton start at DE? Nolton was highly recruited out pf HS. Lack of depth being an issue maybe he's starting over Linton
