I think they see him as a Dabo Sweeney guy. Dynamic personality. Being in the same state as Clemson, they are heavily influenced by their big brother.AHC and TE coach at OU to HC in the SEC? I get the bloodlines but that seems a reach unless he is a super high potential guy.

I’ll respectfully run counter here.AHC and TE coach at OU to HC in the SEC? I get the bloodlines but that seems a reach unless he is a super high potential guy.
If he does well there, maybe he goes home to Blacksburg. I know it would be leaving the SEC, but Columbia is the armpit of the south.I think they see him as a Dabo Sweeney guy. Dynamic personality. Being in the same state as Clemson, they are heavily influenced by their big brother.
Not sure how Hokie Mark or the rest of the VT fan base feels about this but to me, it is looking more and more like Justin Fuentes was a disastrous hire. If Shane kills it in Columbia, it will just make a bad situation worse in Blacksburg.
This was a risky out of the box move for South Carolina. Bold move. It will be interesting to see how it works out.
Yep they do which is wild because they laughed at him until he won a championship...I think they see him as a Dabo Sweeney guy. Dynamic personality. Being in the same state as Clemson, they are heavily influenced by their big brother.

He interviewed and Didnt get it. Might just be amazing year too but I think it woulda been great hire as wellThe fact that they didn't hire the coach of the 2nd best team in the state this season (that would be Coastal) is so weird to me.

South Carolina has the toughest annual schedule in the country.
Clemson every non-Covid year
Florida
Georgia
Texas A&M
Every year.
That is only 3 losses in a good year for them.
They need good coaching to compete with their tough schedule.
They will get talent.
His wife is from NC and supposedly hates being in Louisville. It would seem this backfired on him pretty spectacularly...The honeymoons over in Louisville.

I agree on the "risky" part. South Carolina is where coaches go to end their career, not start it. I'm not sure this is a wise move for Shane or the Gamecocks - I guess we'll see.
As for VT, I think Fuente gets a pass on 2020, but he'll be under massive pressure to perform in 2021... if he does, indeed, survive next week (his buyout drops on Dec. 15th, apparently).
Lots of Hokies think the defense will benefit from having an actual offseason to practice, so they're willing to excuse that side, but they feel like the offense needs a new coordinator.
Fuente and staff also need to recruit at a P5 level (instead of just competing with G5 teams for players). I agree - Frank Beamer used to bring in 4-star players; Fuente is bringing in nothing but 3-stars.

He was the OC at Va Tech when his father was the HC.AHC and TE coach at OU to HC in the SEC? I get the bloodlines but that seems a reach unless he is a super high potential guy.
He's never been an OC. He was the AHC and RB coach at VT.He was the OC at Va Tech when his father was the HC.
This sounds disturbingly familiar. Does Fuentes like movies and is his favorite cake Pineapple Upside Down by any chance ?
