1. Vandy's 260 lb D line more than held its own against South Carolina's 300+ lb O line until the 4th quarter when the ran out of gas. Pretty impressive.
2. Vandy's QB plays exactly like Troy Nunes.
3. South Carolina's QB did an excellent Paulus impersonation.
4. In the greater scheme of things, neither team is all that impressive.

James Franklin was a good QB at the D-2 level, he is a good man and a good coach. I think he'll make Vandy more than competitive and no longer the official homecoming game for the rest of the SEC. It will be interesting to see how long he sticks around.

South Carolina's defense is pretty stout but they are way overrated as a team. #9 ? is a joke. Think the SC offense might have trouble points this year.

I thought Vanderbilt was very improved but not enough weapons - quality tailback but no play makers. At times I felt like I was watching Syracuse.

Interesting commentary during the game the announcers said Vandy just doesn't have the depth and why they ran out of gas in the second half of games last season.

thats odd i thought vandy was very impressive hanging tough with comparatively second class athletes. had they capitalized on the early to they would have scored a major upset.----i glad we don't play them

Vandy got hosed at the end on a missed call on a blatant pass interference on 4th down in their final possession. Would they have scored to win? Who knows, but they didn't get the chance.

The ref was on camera running in front of the play looking directly at it - he never took his eyes off the play and missed it?!! These kids traion and play so hard it is sad to have some part-time Walter Mitty blow such an obvious call. Hard to take.

Did anyone actually think that the SEC officials would make a correct call that would thereby risk Vanderbilt beating a top ten SEC team the first week of the season?

This game showed why pre season rankings are a joke and ruin college ball. South Carolina is a 20 to 25 team at best. They are in the SEC and have a good running back so everyone ranked them in the top 10, much like how Georgia gets respect every season and craps on it. Im sick of the SEC getting so much respect outside of the top 3 teams in conference..bama,lsu,florida deserve respect because of recent titles...none of tne otners do.

And as usual, the SEC refs do a screw job at the end to one of their own (Vandy).

and don't forget the non calls on the two blatant holds by the SC LT on their last possession. I told my wife you could show both of those as textbook holds to a training class for refs.

Being in South Carolina I have to waive the banner for the Gamecocks a bit...Connor Shaw played that whole second half with one arm...

As much as Spurrier is considered an offense first guy, its been defense that has led them the last few years

Agreed and I saw him get dinged a few times and he was hurting for sure. That should be troubling for their offense going forward though because he might be hurt now for the entire season. Will be interesting to see what the injury is. Didn't act like a stinger.

On the flip side the backup I think is a 5th year senior so there might not be too much fall off.

I wasn't real impressed with their playmakers though. Lattimore did not look a 100% and the receivers seemed average. That TE looked good. The catch he made when he got his head taken off was unbelievable.

the backup is a RS soph who hasn't played a lick. He attempted two passes last year.

If Shaw is out for any extended period, they are 'ed...

I thought the back up was in last night for one series and he looked like doggie doo doo.

when the backup went in for a snap last night I would've sworn the announcers said he was a 5th year senior so I must have mis-heard them (or am confusing games.) anyhow, any word on the injury?

I heard someone say at the gym today that Vandy's QB is Aaron Rodgers brother? Is that true?

Aweart, where in SC? I live in Columbia myself. Gamecock fans will be pulling for us at least once a year here shortly

Charleston...James Island specifically...where are you in Columbia?

Yes he is..the announcers repeated it at least 37 times last night

I thought for sure the Rodgers brothers were twins born in different years by the way the announcers were talking.

Cutler's senior year at Vandy they got hosed vs. Florida on a bullspit celebration penalty that forced them to kick the tying PAT instead of going for the 2 and the win. The 'dores lost that game in OT.
