Special request. Today is the last day to vote. Many wonderful charities but I’ve been personally involved with Meals on Wheels program in Syracuse, would appreciate a vote for them knowing the awesome services they provide to a needy community. Thank you so much. To vote look for the vote link on the top right of the page then scroll to Meals on Wheels.

Done. I have been a driver for North Area Meals on Wheels for about 25 years.
For all those who have some free time during the week, they always need help.
I'm sure the Branch in Syracuse is the same way.
Never enough volunteers to deliver or help prepare the meals.
Sometimes we as drivers are the only people the seniors see during the day.
It's my fun day.

Thank you. I actually live in the North area too but volunteered in the city because of the severe shortage of volunteers there too. You are so right about the isolation that most of these recipients experience. Most are elderly, sick, fearful and very reluctant to ask for help. Thank you for your selfless volunteer service! It’s a really rewarding experience.Great opportunity to get acquainted with some very special people.

It was really bad times for them during Covic, when we had to leave meals outside with minimum contact.
After leaving meals would call my regular customers to let them know meals left and wish them a good day.
Thank you for volunteering.

Meals on Wheels America is a great program.

Sounds like this could be an ideal opportunity for players to perform some meaningful community service. Helping prep meals and maybe riding along on some deliveries to see the joy and appreciation on the faces of the people receiving a meal. Imagine the joy if the person receiving the meal is also a fan a SU football and knew the young person delivering the meal was a player. Priceless.

Do we know of any players who might need to do some community service?

I believe that in the past some SU affiliated organizations have donated a day to helping MOW. I’ve seen Lemoyne and some high school organizations too. However the school years do end though, so the summer, during bad weather and school vacation times - there’s even more of a dire need. Some corporations will kindly set up a volunteer day too. The problem is the every day in and out, there`s just a core group that can be counted on. I agree, it would be a great place for athletes to give back.

And I know some of the people I've delivered to were big fans. I always wear something with SU on it. A lot of times it's a talking point.

My dad's been driving for them in N Syracuse/Cicero for years. Good stuff.

A few of my fraternity brothers drove for Meals on Wheels back when I was in school (mid-80's).
They all LOVED doing it.

See? We did balance off our debauchery and decadence with the occasional altruistic endeavor!
