Sorry if this has already been brought up...very good article in this week's SI about SU and Boeheim. They did mention the Fine stuff, but very limited. Thought that article was very well written and very balanced.

Anyone else read it? Thoughts?

Love that portrayal of JB. People get caught up in making these coaches out to be gods, or saints. JB is a basketball coach. Nice article.

Great article - more than the usual talking points. I thought it was especially interesting that he admitted to being thin-skinned - I thought he usually claimed the opposite.

Waiters stayed, partly because he wanted to play one more year with Jardine, who is not his cousin, no matter what news stories and the Syracuse media guide say. They have just been tight since they were kids in Philadelphia, and they like when people call them cousins.

Mind blown.

Scoop and Dion have trolled us all to a level Iggy only dreams of.

Jardine and Melo played in the World University Games in China last summer, Jardine for the U.S., Melo for Brazil. Jardine saw a thinner Melo—another reason he lost weight: "The food was horrible," he says—and a hint of the season to come. "I was texting back home, 'Yo, Fab got better!'" Jardine says.

This gave me a real chuckle.

I also loved this gem from JB.

Joseph said. "It's not about the individual accolades at this point."
That sounds like a lesson that could help you in business and in life. But Boeheim won't sell that story, most of all because even he doesn't buy it. When he played at Syracuse, he says, "I wanted the guy ahead of me to do bad so I could get in the game." Why would his players be any different?

Really enjoyable article. It offers some things not often talked about.

This is an awesome story.

1. I hope he eventually writes that book because he has such a different perspective than most of the other elite coaches out there.
2. When he retires I hope he gets a job calling games for ESPN. I would love to hear his perspective on games. What would be his "pump fake"?

Nice piece.

Speaking of Sports Illustrated, Seth Davis's annual compilation of NBA scouts' opinions on college players usually comes out around this time. I wonder if we'll see that soon; after hearing so much on here about Fab's and Dion's potential, I'd love to see what the professionals have to say.

What? The professionals on this board like me and everyone else that posts here aren't good enough for you?

Haha, I'm looking for a certain breadth of opinion; if the scouts tell us what the good folks here are telling us, then I'll know the scouts are right.

"The cynic in him says, Maybe it wouldn't be so bad to lose one or two more. Maybe that would push the Orange to improve."

I feel the same way. I don't want them thinking they're invincible with Melo in the lineup. They looked overconfident against G'town and UConn, and that's dangerous.

Great article.

One thing that gives me pause: He doesn't consult his assistants during the timeouts. Will this hinder Mike Hopkins?

This is the first I have heard of this.

Me too.
