It's not just a matter of averages. SI used several facts to evaluate the players:

"stats, of course, were a primary factor, but talent level, importance to team, supporting cast, team success and any other unique circumstances were also given consideration."

It seems all those factors except maybe "team success" would work in Eli's favor.
How many games would the Orange have won without him?
It's one thing to underrate him.
It's another to say he doesn't deserve to be somewhere in the TOP 50 in the country.

Leaving him out is crazy.

the amusing part was it rated some guy on Minnesota #22, commenting, stats great, #1 scorer, 3rd FG, blah blah blah, but team sucked. how's that work?

I don't understand how you have a "top 50 players" list and base it on anything BUT individual accomplishments. It's not Eli's fault he was on an average team. If we're talking who was the best, look at what the individual did.

Are they basing the list on how well the player performed this year or how talented they think the player is and how they project in the draft/pros. It wouldn't surprise me if they claimed the former while it was really the latter.
