I have an end of the semester project for an arcGIS class I am taking. arcGIS is a software that can create maps of basically anything as long as you can find data. So I am trying to drum up some ideas of a map to create related to sports.

First idea I had was a map related to players in the NFL and where they are from by state and/or county, this would be pretty generic though and probably done many times.

Curious if you ladies and gentlemen have any ideas of something you would like to see mapped that relates to college or pro sports across the country. Even if its not sports related, I appreciate any input!

Can you correlate college teams W/L record with local alcohol purchases?

Who drinks more ... winning fans or losing fans? :D

It would be fun to see the "where they are from" breakdown for all pro sports and maybe college football and basketball as well. Maybe even historical stuff: all the players who have ever played in the NFL, NBA, MLB, etc. That also sounds very time-consuming.

Good possibility I will do something along those lines. If I do I will be sure to post it.

Maybe use the map to compare eras. Plot where players came from in 1988 vs 2014 or something like that.

You could then compare to census trends of population growth. You could also test some theories why places like Alabama, Mississippi, and Louisiana have a higher per capita of football athletes than other areas by comparing poverty rate, literacy, healthy eating, etc. to athletes per capita and see what comes of it. I remember Colin Cowherd had a whole theory about it but I believe it was purely anecdotal- he wanted someone to really run the numbers and test his theory.

Will definitely investigate this further. All depends on if I can gather enough data.

Screw that sports stuff. Do a map of where Clarkson grads are and what their salary is. Then compare that to Rutgirls grads.

Brilliant!

I think New Orleans (both times) proved that CNY wins - win OR lose. ;)
