Sitting here drinking coffee waiting for the rest of the Fam to wake up, Spouse abruptly turns to Chakka and out of the blue asks, "I thought our Football team was supposed to be hardnosed?"

Chakka defended the players and said it's sometimes the coaches that don't call the right plays making the players look bad. Spouse fires back, "I like Coach and the misses but he better start doing his job cause they are making the players look really bad".

I responded, "Amen Dearest One!".

Gotta understand something about Spouse - she started getting real interested in football when FHCDM took over. Spouse has been memorizing player numbers and tells me during game, "Great catch by West" or "Great run by Gully". I told Spouse during NOVA game she was a "Hardnosed" fan to know the names of players!

Now if she memorizes where you can buy anything except Bud or LaBatt's Light in the Dome, you've really got something!

got to be honest I always thought the "Hardnosed" thing was kind of lame but if it works for Shafer its fine with me.

First - Chakka always listens to Spouse!

Second - she is a casual fan that for a long time was a basketball only junkie whereas I prefer football. I used to have to force her to come to football games now she likes to go - it also helps that we sit near friends as well. As a casual fan she listens to all the hype. Myself, I used to be involved in marketing so I have an interest in marketing messages and how they translate into mindshare. I post this stuff as obviously I'm just trying to relate the casual fan experience and how I hope it's changing over time. I know it's a survey of one but I see it elsewhere with others who we are starting to see come to games on a regular basis.

Best way to build up the casual fan interest is through marketing hype (winning helps too) - best way to lose the casual fan base is to underperform the message (losing games helps too). By the way, we both were happy to see the fan turnout Friday night - students were great too.

Basically all she did was just questioned without knowing it if the team is really walking the talk.

I guess I will stop posting about the Spouse (especially before she finds out)! Nuff said.
