1. IPF is still on track...a few issues (not money related) but they should get resolved to get it finished by Fall. BTW, really not much an issue as this winter has been colder than normal so construction would have been spotty and slow anyways.

2. The Invite only NSD Briefing by Coach Shafer is limited to Big Donors by size of facility not by desire. They are aware low/moderate level donors are not too happy.

3. Ft Drum III is supposedly on track.

Just seems to me that maybe someone could have chosen a larger facility so they wouldn't have to turn people away. Fail on the SID's behalf.

I remember that had a signing day thing schedule a few years ago that got cancelled.. They really need to create something thats geared a bit more towards the non big money people. dont they have big lecture halls on campus that could be used in the evenings that seat a pretty big number?

Next year could they stage it in the new law school building? Hoping they have a lecture hall of 250+ and offer free parking in Stadium West. I've never been to one of these...what is the max number of Orange Club donors you think would show up?

Maybe this was strategery to draw in additional donations. Just a thought.

* I know the word is strategic but I enjoyed Will Farrel's President G. W. Bush impersonations.

Don't blame the SID- that's on Gross. There are plenty of places to have it on-campus that could host, like I don't know the Carrier Dome.

They used to do it in the team meeting room, and it was NEVER full.

How about this for making a statement? DG loves the "bling" anyways... why not?

Crouse College Auditorium is maybe the most beautiful indoor place on campus. Just a stunning space.

i had forgotten how pretty it is there and was a little ashamed to have forgotten

My wife was a music major, and with me being a band geek too I spent a lot of time in Crouse. My favorite building on campus by a mile. A lot of kids probably never went inside, which is a shame.

The way interdepartmental logistics are handled at SU makes marketing et al. look efficient by comparison.

The large auditorium in the current law school can only be used by the law school in August; once the semester gets underway, it's off limits because the law school and the other departments that use it for large-group class lectures can't come to an agreement.

I can't imagine the athletic department having more success (and, after years of not being accommodated by other schools and departments, I bet the law school will get selfish with its new toy once it opens in a few months).

For signing day, Old Manley would've been perfect. Even now, the balcony can seat a couple hundred people. Maybe they can look into that.

Exactly.

Maybe this is a stupid question, but why not set up a whole bunch of chairs on the turf side of the Dome and have it there? Or do the same thing at Manley?

I have a feeling based on some comments about how this event was never previously full and maybe they didn't expect the turnout. Which I will also agree seems surprising to us considering the buzz perceived about this class over previous classes, but then again that's the perception of those of us that are into recruiting. I would expect they will improve the event for next year. Maybe set up a stage and chairs in the brand spanking new IPF next year. hint hint. :)

Exactly.

I know this may be nitpicky, but how does SU mess this up? This should be a slam dunk/great event. Either SU is using the size as an excuse (which is a bad choice in alienating mid-level and small-level donors) or they weren't able to figure out the logistics to fit everyone (which is embarrassing).

These are the type of things that SU has to nail without any issues. There are a lot of things which we are at a disadvantage being the school we are, but this shouldn't be one of them.

how much notice are the people given and how well informed is it? typical communications from the school dont explain things very well. look at how they handled the PC. how hard is this?

1) set a date/time/location
2) decide if its invitation only and if pre-registration is required
3) notify people far in advance and remind them closer to the day
4) decide who is going to talk and what questions will be allowed or answered
5) decide the level of food prep
6) if you plan on showing video pick a room that has video

Ideal was a few years back when we had a home basketball game coinciding with signing day and the coach (Robinson?) was set up on a stage in the backcourt prior to the game.

I agree...I do think it needs to be tied to being a member of the Orange Club. Make it the $500 level to give some of the $125 donors an incentive to up their giving.
