Start Benny tonight. Turn him lose for 35 minutes. Easy double double.

This is where I am at. He will be back to his go into the first half until he makes a mistake and then he will sit the entire second half if it is a close game.

Will be interesting to see what happens if Joe or Buddy get in foul trouble. What happens? Do they rotate up Cole and play Benny?
No offense to you but if Joe or Buddy get into foul trouble that implies they would have had to actually participate in playing defense. I wonder, has that actually happened the last couple months? Both play defense and/or get into foul trouble.

It's never a fun thing when the tradition of standing for the first basket extends through the first media timeout.
Yes, I was trying to get a ruling on that in our section.

If we are still standing and clapping at the first media timeout, can we sit down for the duration of the media timeout or do we have to keep standing?

Nobody seemed to be particularly interested in opining.

For our long-time season ticket holders, when was the last time we were still clapping after the first media timeout?

Everyone assumed Frank would average 15 boards a game after the VT game and we know that hasn't happened.

I agree to play Benny more but don't expend him to suddenly turn into a star by getting more playing time.

Absolutely sit during a time out.

I think it's a dumb tradition fwiw.

Would much rather everyone just go over the top nuts when our first points go on the board.

It’s been 5 or 6 years, but it‘s happened a few times before.

Fact. Barring Jimmy or Cole getting hurt, JB is never sitting a healthy one of them for more than 15 mins in a game unless we're being embarrassed to a similar extent as Saturday.
Then I'd vouch for another embarrassment if it means we'll have a better idea of Benny's potential for next year. This year was stained from the moment we lost to Colgate.

He needs extended time the rest of these games just to see if he's part of the solution next year. If he is then great, but if he is not we need to get a transfer forward. We won't know any of this unless he plays.
I want to see him get some extended run in the remaining games, too, but his play in those games (good or bad) should not determine his fate for next season. That would be akin to deciding whether Mike Hopkins could coach based on how he did when filling in for JB. Regardless of how this season plays out for Benny, he needs to put in a lot of work in the off-season with an eye toward making a significant sophomore jump.

I just can’t watch Jimmy for 30+ mpg anymore. Especially on a team that is going nowhere. So yeah, more Benny. Why not?
I'm not accustomed to having a team playing for nothing in college basketball. In pro sports, I'm accustomed to wanting to put in all the young guys and increase lottery odds/draft position. This is fairly strange, especially when we only really have 1 young guy on the bench and still probably won't get more mins then the coaches kid the rest of the way.

senior night. pants them on the tip.

He had 2 fouls in his 1st 3 minutes.
JB doesn’t have the automatically sit you with 2 fouls in the first half rule like a lot of other coaches.
He could have played him if he wanted too.
He didn’t want it was a coaching decision.

It’s JB’s decision in the end but 37 regulation minutes for Jimmy vs. 4 for Benny made little sense.
Jimmy’s D in the first half was just not good enough. Atleast he brought some offense in the second half but the defense was poor.

He put Jimmy at the 5 over Frank in the second half.

Jimmy's first half was one of the worst I've ever seen at Syracuse for a starter. He should have rode Benny more. What's there to lose?

When you don't return to the game at a point commensurate with where someone being pulled for having 2 fouls generally would, it kind of neuters any kind of point that you were trying to make there.

He was coming out regardless and not being put back in for more than a token minute or 2 as the previous 2 months have shown to be the norm. Jimmy gets his 35+ mpg and Benny having a good game against Duke isn't about to get in the way of that.

Jimmy had to get run in the second half because our guards couldn't get the ball into the frontcourt.

Yeah.

JB wasn't worried about Benny fouling out.

I agree. Standing and clapping UNTIL they score and then when they score you sit down and be quiet... kinda dumb.
