[QUOTE="CardiacCuse, post: 4086181, member: 6979"] they only took 15 3 pointers! many of which were ill-advised. and only made 5 of those. JB says that the opponents are face gaurding and not giving up 3's so cole, buddy, etc need to drive...but I think that is the totally wrong way of looking at it. They need to scheme to get these guys open looks. What are they even trying other than - ok its your turn to go 1 on 1? these guys arent 1 on 1 specialists! its squar peg round hole...and borderline lazy. from a strategy perspective. Almost every single game this season...the opponent has shot more 3's than the Orange. in this contest, villanova shot 35 more 3's than SU! they built this roster around 3 point shooting...overloaded on it. and cant find a way to get any clean looks. they should be shooting more threes than every team they play. it makes zero sense to have this team be a driving 2 point shooting team.zero. this isnt about shot quality - but if you wanna go there - the shot quality is poor...forced 1 on 1 drives are not high % plays. they just arent. they might make some but they arent high percentage. jg3, jimmy and edwards were scoring...but they give so many shots to buddy instead. when hes off. they do a poor job of feeding the hot hand. joe guns. cole finally hits a 3 and doesnt get the ball for a while. edwards starts doing work and they stop feeding him. tehy can barely make an entry pass successfully. all the players were forcing it...all trying to be the hero...if they had played calm, smart basketball they win that game by 20. 4 assists for the game says it all. didnt score more than 30 points in either half. the design (or lack thereof) of the offense is the issue. focusing on "just missing shots" obscures that. youre right about villanova. i dont understand why the refs let them get away with everything. moving screens galore...very physical with contact on every possession. I dont think villanova is actually that good...but they work the system about as good as any team can in terms of what they get away with and how the scrape and claw for every little advantage they can. overall, im sure in practice it was all defense all the time...and they havent worked much on the offense - but the same way they came up with the 113 for the d...they need some wrinkles for the offense...they used to run buddy off screens for 3s and dont seem to do that anymore...they have shooters and they need to get them looks. the distribution of shots on the team is not making much sense.
