Steve Angeli: Torn Achilles

From Pat Forde, SI columnist. A very small portion of his weekly column "Forde-Yard Dash". This from his "Fourth Quarter" part:

Coach Who Should Take the Bus to Work

Fran Brown (39), Syracuse

Given the Orange’s season trajectory, quarterback Steve Angeli should win the Heisman. With him, Syracuse was 3–1 with a road victory over Clemson. Without him, Cuse has been blasted by Duke and SMU in succession, scoring a total of 21 points in those games. Backup QB Rickie Collins has thrown four interceptions in his two starts. Brown needs to get him coached up.

Unfortunately coaching up isn’t going to help him learn to look off receivers and gain accuracy.

Second that. Plus tacking that chair will be an obstacle for UNC they haven’t prepared for.

Does the ball have to break the plane, or just the front of the cart?

Got word today from a direct source that Angeli is doing well with his rehab and fully expects to be ready well before next year. Was also told he tore his MCL likely earlier in the game against Clemson and likely contributed to his Achilles tear.

Thanks for sharing, sounds like great news. It was really a perfect storm leading to the worst case scenario because of what you mentioned with the MCL and then the wet field after halftime with the huge delay. I think the first injury happened in the first drive and as we saw it didn’t hurt his play whatsoever.

I've seen mention here that he may have 2 years of eligibility left. What are his pro prospects? Seems like we think McCord was better, and if McCord couldn't make an active roster, is Angeli likely to try to get as much time in college as possible to benefit from NIL?

I'd say its very likely Angeli plays 2 more seasons if he has 2 years of eligibility. He has barely played in college so far. Much less than McCord had. NFL teams are not likely to draft a player with his measurables after 1 year of evidence. He'd have to be ridiculously good to not play 2 more seasons, like better numbers than McCord's.

Wait did he have his MCL repaired also? In addition to the Achilles repair? That would be a new development.

I swear that Clemson intentionally targets our QB’s when we play down there. Isn’t Angeli the third one to get knocked out of a game down there? I know Shrader did too. Dungey?

?? On the play Angeli tore his Achilles, he received no contact at all. How was he targeted?
