Strong to UT?

Strong to UT might be interesting because of the same reasons he was passed over in the SEC!. Austin is very progressive but the outlining areas are not. I wish him the best of luck if he got it.

and he would take the job in a minute. Pinnacle for a guy who started out as a Texas HS coach.

Briles just signed a 10 year extension worth about $4 - $5 million a year. They are building one of the nicest football stadiums in the country. The facilities at Baylor are incredible. Briles is killing it in recruiting and he beat UT 3 out of the last 4 years. Briles is THE MAN at Baylor and he can do no wrong. One season less than 10 wins at UT and he's on the hot seat.

Plus, I believe Briles to be a man of honor and his support of Baylor to be unwavering.

Sic em Bears! Beat UCF!

BU Class of '94.

You sound like someone trying to convince yourself that he wont leave... I think he either goes to the NFL or UT

this is the hire that starts the dominoes falling-

I respectfully disagree. The race issue and more specifically interracial is not much of an issue in Texas. I live in the Houston Metro and don't see/hear a lot of this nonsense. You may hear it from rednecks in the outlying areas but that is a rather small number in comparison. You hear it from outlying morons in New York, too, so I wouldn't credit Texas wit the SEC issues.

Besides, Texas will back any winner. That is the only measuring stick. There are no moral victories. Yes, beating OU and TAMU - when they play - are important, but winning is the main issue, sticking it to OU and TAMU is just icing on the victory cake.

Strong would do well in Texas. He gets kids focused on playing and he does recognize talent (Mack Brown overlooked RGIII and Johnny Football as QBs). Strong will have a good defense (which in Big 12 terms should rank #1 annually) and he is a decent game coach. Texas would do well to look seriously at Strong.

However, both Strong and Fisher have schools and fan bases that love them and do not expect NCs annually, so long as they remain highly competitive. There is no issue of money, both are well compensated and Texas can easily buy them out and pay much more. The issue for each is whether they will be happy coaching under the demands of a Texas fan base or whether each will be happy with solid support and a little less pay but realistic shots at the NC periodically. Fisher also has to consider giving up a destination job for another destination job, is it worth the hassle and risk? Nice dilemma to have for each of these guys.

If Texas is smart they go after Art Briles at Baylor. Briles was the former President of Texas High School Football Association, and runs a spread offense that has turned Baylor around. If Briles doesn't want the job then you interview Jimbo Fisher, James Franklin, and Charlie Strong and whichever impresses you the most is the guy. I think that is how it will play out. My buddy from UT told me the UT fanbase hates the fact Briles is from Baylor and doesn't want that stigma, but realize the guy is the best fit if he will take the job.

Golden to psu. Strong to Miami.

ALL4SU, I don't think Strong will leave Louisville unless it for 1. Texas 2. Florida 3. NFL.

If Golden too the Penn State job which is a possibility, I think Schiano would be the guy for Miami since he was the Defensive Coordinator for Butch Davis at Miami before weaseling his way into Rutgers.

Strong is an overrated coach who is already WAYYYY overpaid at Louisville (#7 in the country at $3.7 mil/year). Yes the man can recruit, but recruiting as the coach at UT isn't really "recruiting", it's selecting.

Texas needs a football COACH, and Charlie Strong is not the man for the job. I'd go hard after Jimbo.
As Mack Brown has proven over the last few years, you still have to properly evaluate the talent you select. If he's smart enough to give RG3, Johnny Football, and Jameis Winston scholarships, we're not talking about an opening at Texas.

Strong knows defense. Give him Texas talent, and his defense will be elite.

You are forgetting that Greg Robinson already works for UT, making him the obvious choice.
Listening to the local sports talk station here yesterday, a caller - I kid you not - was pushing GRob for consideration as the head coach. The host, while not going so far as to agree, did absolve GRob of his record at Syracuse, saying Syracuse has struggled since McNabb left and basically that GRob had a no win situation. He had similar reasoning for his performance at Michigan.

sigh...

The host has a point, but neglecting to take a serious look at GRob's overall team management (game day, game prep, player development, recruiting, etc.) would be a serious mistake on Texas' part. Though, GRob did turn around Texas' defense this season, and he deserves full credit for doing so, he is not a #1 guy, he makes a solid #2 at DC.

Not really. GRob was responsible for turning the program around and he failed miserably. It is what it is. It doesn't mean he hasn't learned from the experience or will always be a bad HC - but he was an awful head coach here and he knew the limitations heading into the job.

Now the only flexibility I'd give in my assessment is if he was made investment promises that weren't kept, for example he was told he could spend much more on assistants and that was scrapped, the university committed to improve facilities and didn't, etc. Then I think you could reasonably make the argument that he walked into the situation expecting one thing but given another.

I was limiting my agreement with the host that Syracuse had struggled since McNabb graduated, P failed to follow up and recruit a good QB.

As for GRob coming to Syracuse, he knew what the situation was. Shaw and Crouthamel were in control and there would be no large sums of money for staff and facilities with those two in office. That issue has been discussed ad nauseum.

Hmmmm, no.
Wrong Chancellor. Wrong AD.

Sorry, my mistake. Thanks for the correction. I forgot that NC and DG came in and had to get rid of PP. Regardless, at that point, there wasn't likely any extra money to meet promises of money for staff and facilities improvements immediately.
