#11 Syracuse 12, #15 Virginia Tech 11 (OT)
In what seems to be the norm for lacrosse teams wearing the Syracuse jersey this year, the Orange won a one-goal victory. Syracuse took a 12-11 victory in overtime over Virginia Tech, the fifth one-goal win of the season.
This game was back-and-forth, with Virginia Tech leading 7-4 early in the 2nd half, then Syracuse taking a late two-goal lead, and Virginia Tech responding with two goals in the final two minutes. Mary Rahal netted a free position shot on Syracuse’s first overtime possession to take the win.
Takeaway #1: Syracuse got a nice win without Nicole Levy.
Nicole Levy missed this game, taking away one of Syracuse’s primary scoring threats. The Orange have not been able to avoid the injury bug, with Levy and Taylor Gait each missing time now, but the Orange offense has been able to avoid too much trouble most times with ten players now having double digit goals.
Through all of the close calls with Syracuse, the Orange stand 11-4 overall and 4-1 in the ACC, solidifying second place in the league. This game saw Bri Starr enter in goal for Asa Goldstock, finishing off the game and taking the win. Goldstock had five saves and six goals allowed, Starr had four saves and five goals allowed. Will be an interesting question for the next game, with the next opponent being first place North Carolina.
