Who gave these refs their certifications the past two games? Do they get judged on how they call games? Because I would have failed each and every single one we had for these two Notre Dame games. I mean really… I felt like I was watching Oprah. YOU GET A YELLOW CARD! YOU GET A YELLOW CARD! GREEN CARD FOR YOU!!! LOL reasons like this are why no one (particularly men) likes watching women’s lacrosse. I thought the refs have eased up on their calls over the years but the past two games just brought all of that frustration back. I hope this is not going to be a trend for the rest of our games. If so, Syracuse is just going to have to ease up on their checks in the midfield because those yellow cards and green cards absolutely killed us. Which gave Notre Dame so many opportunities on the 8 meter, where they are most dangerous and most likely going to capitalize.
Not only did the yellow/green cards kill us, but once again, the turnovers as well. Passing/catching while clearing need some serious work. Nazarian and Swart dropped a couple easy passes in transition that lead to turnovers—just to name a few. The turnovers HAVE to be corrected before April 3rd. The sloppiness and only showing up for one quarter thing is not going to fly against North Carolina. They really are their own worst enemy most of the time. Can’t imagine what the score could have been if they actually played their best lacrosse each half and limited the turnovers/yellow cards.
On a much brighter note, I’m happy with the second half adjustments and the way they came out and battled back. Didn’t let the calls get to them and didn’t get defeated when they were down. They did what they should have done from the start— moved the ball and moved their feet as Gait would say lol. That is when they are the most dangerous. Great day at the office for the Tyrrell sisters— read that they combined for something like 10 points? Wow. Incredible! I love that every game so far someone different has stepped up. They are sharing the ball well and playing unselfish and that is why this team has been so successful on the offensive end.
Mashewske really has been a revelation for us so far this year. Pretty much came out of nowhere and has dominated in every game thus far. Keep up the hard work. We haven't had a draw specialist this good since Kailah Kempney/Kayla Treanor! Also, great second half from the defense and Asa by making key saves to halt ND’s momentum and not allowing ND to score on a couple of their Women-up possessions.
