Men's Soccer SU 3 vs Niagara 0: Sun Aug 25, 7 PM

Good effort.

I thought Sam Layton really controlled things on the defensive end. He was really good.

Hut made a couple good saves early to keep the scoreboard clean. Didn’t have much to do after that.

Omeze is playing really well at right full. It appears he can defend, pass and score too. Nice when a defender scores two games in a row. And he is only a freshman.

I think Ming is our most exciting player. He seems to make something good happen almost every time he touches the ball. The man has a lot of skill. Another true frosh.

Da Kosta played as a sub at midfield today. He seemed uncomfortable there but looked a lot better in the middle.

I like Chifamba, Baja and Acquah. Especially Acquah.

Nick played well too, His goal was really pretty.
Great wrap-up.

A lot of good feet out there and nice passing. Not that you did not, but Nick is on my really like list - always lots of energy. And Hut with one great save.

SU outshot Colgate 16-4; not quite as impressive as UVA, but SU played at Colgate and UVA was home and missed a PK.
From what I saw the UVA team strung passes together pretty well. We are a young team chemistry will grow as they play more together.

Also shots on target uva 7 gate 1. Cuse 4. Gate 4

Pretty remarkable crowd for a game against a non-descript (no offense Niagara) opponent we really don't have much history with.

We really have to start thinking about installing seating behind the other sideline (east sideline). Just adding 10 rows along the whole sideline would take the Syracuse facility up to the next level.

Right now, I think it is the only one in the ACC that does not have seating on both sidelines and this is really unacceptable given the fanbase and growing support for soccer here.

There is room to add egress to the east sideline behind the north goal. It is already all but open to access behind the south goal. And the empty field to the east of the field provides plenty of space for expanskion.

Let's get this done ASAP. And add a nice scoreboard with an instant replay screen while we are at it. ;)

Totally agree Tom. Have you heard any rumblings of these upgrades?

No. But a man can hope!

If there was a funding campaign, I would contribute. I know a lot of others that would too.

We want to give the soccer teams the facility that they deserve!

Perhaps we should reach out to Pete Deloria and ask for them to set something up?

I don't even know who Pete is but I am good with leveraging whoever we can to get things rolling.

The worst preseason poll in any sport is the one for men’s soccer, and I am not just talking about this year. The ACC started the year with 10 ranked teams and now, after one week, it has 7 with 3 others receiving votes.

A lot of respect for coach and recent history in this week’s poll. I like that because that is how it works for a lot of other sports. The Orange is a work in process. The coach and the players will be the first to tell you that, but there was certainly some internal buzz before the season started.

Looking forward to the team fulfilling that promise, improving every game and with hard work (and some luck if necessary) fulfilling that promise and the respect shown in this week’s poll.

Surprised Colgate didn’t even get one vote. Charlotte did though. They got two. That game is going to be a big one.
